My sweet sounding Marantz amplifier of 45 years is starting to hum/buzz signaling it's probably time for replacement.

Looking for any suggestions that folks might have that they've either had good success with, or, any "stay away" comments too.

May end up looking at Marantz again but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

the issue may just be caused by the power supply caps finally dying and not filtering any longer so you could be getting 60Hz power line hum. It might be worth having it looked at by a tech and not be expensive to fix. Do you have any reliable electronics repair people near where you live?

Which Marantz model do you have as those vintage units sell for good money used so it may be worth fixing.

If you go new do you want a receiver so you can get radio or just an integrated amp? Budget?

For a good reliable and very affordable A/V stereo (not surround sound) receiver you can't go wrong with a Yamaha.  I recently replaced a 25 year old (which is now in my man cave) Yamaha with the $300 Yamaha N303.....Obviously it's not in the same league as a Marantz, but Yamaha does built quality products that are very affordable.

It's only a 2 channel stereo receiver but it's digital, has Blue Tooth, and includes some "smart features" including a decent Wi fi to enable it to sync with on-line music and Sirius XM without all the additional inputs....I've had it for just over a year and had no issues.  Here's a link to find out more:

And a review link:

This is a lower end Yamaha receiver in terms of features and output, but Yamaha has several more of this model but larger and more capable that you can easily research via the web.....

It's a Model 2240B. I've seen them used on eBay always selling for at least several hundred (more than my original purchase cost). I'm not sure that locally there is a capable repair place. There are possibilities in towns where my kids live though. I may pursue that hoping it's a somewhat simple fix. Expense isn't an issue, I'd just want something that sounds nice but doesn't necessarily have all the bells and whistles. Its primary use would be playing CDs and albums that I enjoy.

I have an Marantz 1060 that needs some repairs.

Still good for vinyl rips so that all it does anymore.

I suggest looking into Onkyo products.

I have two amps & they sound great.

I been using Adcom products for 20 years or so. My system is a preamp and power amp, etc. Still using the original power amp and am quite pleased with the performance. American made by the way.

I can suggest a couple of items if you want solid state vs tube and your budget. After 50 years old solid state I bought a tube integrated amp and I will never go back to solid state.

Have you considered something with streaming? My amp is a VPI 299D. It was made by VPI turntable and a work of love by the now deceased owner of VPI. All hand made point to point wiring and only 100 of them make. It sounds excellent. But it puts out about 50 watts of power.

Have you considered something used. There are a lot of nice slightly used amps at a great price.

Just a thought.
