All three have real nice tones. I'm hearing more and more fat tones from Stratocaster players. But I like the traditional strat tone on stuff like Sultans of Swing by Dire Straights too. The Les Paul is my favorite guitar especially plugged into a hot amp probably because of Duane and Dickey though Dickey was playing a Strat the first several times I saw the ABB in 1970.

Don Felder played a key role in the Eagles after he joined and especially on Hotel California one of the best selling rock albums in history. Over 30 million copies is insane.

Felder is the Dickey Betts I guess of the Eagles. Felder was thrown out of the band with Glen Frey threatening to kick Felder's butt on the stage. Joe Walsh said when a band has guys ready to fight on stage in front of people who paid to see the band, man you have some real problems!!! Amen to that.

Don Henley, the 4th richest drummer on the planet at $250 million dollars runs the Eagles solo now and Don Felder will never play in the band again.

Styx is a band I saw once in the 1970's. I enjoyed them but it was a different bag completely than the ABB.

This happened when The Eagles were the biggest American band. And heck I guess they still are. When this happened the Eagles were way bigger than Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, you name it. And it was nasty and embarrassing. But the end of Don Felder. Felder had pissed off the two power guys in the band. You don't piss off Glenn and Don Henley and remain in the Eagles. You are out!!!!!!

It's a shame that Felder was forced out of the Eagles. I always thought he really was an integral part of their sound. He and Joe Walsh were a really good fit. I Love the band and I love Glen Frey. But it doesn't matter how many times I see that clip, Frey comes across as a real A$$hole.

@kcjimmy Yes and Frey is gone now. RIP.  I think Vince Gill replaced him but supposedly hardcore Eagles fans aren't that crazy about it.

First time I saw the Eagles was to take a date to see them about 1973 or so. A lot of girls loved the Eagles then but I was kinda ho-hum. Glen Frey and Bernie Leadon we're the guitar players and they were clean and tight. The singing I thought was the most impressive. Guitars clean and tight but they never really cut loose and laid you out.

Don Henley ran Bernie Leadon off because he started dating Patty Davis daughter of Ronald Reagan and Henley could not stand Reagan. So they had Don Felder and Joe Walsh and the guitar playing was real good. They could hold their own with about anybody.

Glen Frey ran the original bass player Randy Meissner off. Frey fired him for refusing to sing a song Frey figured some fans had been waiting to see live for years. Just bounced his butt right then and there. Frey said he stoled Randy from Poco anyway so he stole Randy's replacement in Poco, Tim Schmidt.

I was reading the other day the Eagles basically stole Poco's southern California folk-rock desert sound and took that sound and turned themselves into the most famous and successful American rock band ever. You name it..Van Halen, Z. Z. Top, Bruce Springsteen etc and the Eagles are WAY BIGGER!!! Hotel California has sold over 30 million copies and their greatest hits is the best selling album in the history of music followed closely by Michael's Thriller.

Don Henley the drummer and lead singer on half of their songs is worth over $250 million dollars!!! But he isn't the world's richest drummer. That is Ringo Starr.

When Joe Walsh plays with a drummer he has to be worth at least $200 million. Henley was too stuck up to play on this so he brought in the really rich drummer.

@robertdee First Time I saw them was July 3, 1976 at the Omni in Atlanta. The opening band was Fleetwood Mac. Both bands smoked. Truly one of the best shows I have seen. Joe Walsh was relatively new to the band but He and Don Felder were excellent. Meisner sang Take it to The Limit ( Don't know if it was under duress or not but it was really good). Fleetwood Mac hadn't quite shot to stardom yet and they put on a really fine show.

@kcjimmy Yes Fleetwood Mac also became a huge success. Buckingham and Nix joining gave them a pop-rock sound that, like the Eagles, women went crazy about.

Rumors sold over 25 MILLION COPIES in the U.S. and over 40 million copies world wide.

I'm always bragging about how big the Allman Brothers Band was in 1973 and 1974 with Brothers and Sisters selling over 5 million copies and being the number one album for 5 weeks in a row. Well Rumors was number one on the top 200 album chart for 31 WEEKS!!!

My favorite band by far is the Allman Brothers Band. It is humbling in a way to understand just how big bands such as The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Guns and Roses were/are. Led Zeppelin not far behind.

It would be a gas if somehow TTB or Gov't Mule could be that big at least for a few years! I'd love it.

TTB or Gov't Mule with an album selling millions of copies!! Now that would be so cool.

The lead player of this band was thrown out. Buckingham, Felder and Betts should put a band together called "The Kicked Out Boys".

Probably Dickey should have sued the pants off the ABB but he did win over $1 million in arbitration.

@robertdee ABB is by far my favorite also. None of those other bands music grab me the way the ABB does. I just want the music to live on for all future generations. It would also be cool if Devon, Duane & Berry Jr were to hit it big. That would definitely help make the road go on forever.

Yes that band of rejects could be called "The UnWanted". They'd be pretty good too! Ill bet there are others that would qualify. Who are some other top notch musicians that were kicked out of good bands?

David Abbruzzese -Pearl Jam

Steven Adler-Guns and Roses

Jon Anderson - Yes

Syd Barrett - founder of Pink Floyd

Dennis DeYoung - Styx

Brian Jones - founder of the Rolling Stones.

Dave Navarro - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Alec John Such - Bon Jovi

Pete Willis - Def Leopard

Richard Wright founding keyboard player for Pink Floyd fired by Roger Waters. Re-hired when Waters quit.

There are more but that's it from this list.

Well I missed David Ruffin lead singer for the Temptations who got an ego, wanted special billing ( David Ruffin and the Temptations) and control of the band to stay and the rest said no and you're fired.

How about adding a lead guitarist who can also write really great songs?Maybe someone who received a fax?
