Steven Tyler Announces Solo Tour
After nearly half a century performing with Aerosmith, singer Steven Tyler will hit the road this summer as a solo artist. The tour kicks off on June 12 in Lewiston, N.Y., and will wrap up in London on Aug. 7.
You can see all the dates below.
"Look, I don't expect to hit like the Beatles or be the second coming of Aerosmith," Tyler said (via USA Today). "It was time for a little break. I'm such a passionate person that if I don't go after my muse like that, I'll wind up on drugs again. I'll wind up arguing with people and just no good."
The tour follows the 2016 release of Tyler's debut solo album, We're All Somebody From Somewhere, which scored the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and reached the Billboard 200's Top 20.
Tyler will hit the road with Nashville's Loving Mary, and he said it's different from any he's ever done before -- in both style and format. "What would I not pay to go see [Paul] McCartney, but instead of playing with whoever he's with now, actually do [a show] where he tells you what he was thinking when he wrote 'Yesterday'?" he explained. "That's what I'm doing. I figured I'd talk about 'Sweet Emotion' and 'Dream On' and where I was when I wrote it, and 'Seasons of Wither' and how I played it."
The singer said the switches in genre and band give him the freedom to try out some new musical terrain. "It's a full-on country feel," he noted. "People ask me, 'Why'd you go country?' It was almost a shoo-in. I always wanted to do Everly Brothers. It's really is beautiful getting out there and singing with a band, where I can look at all the guys and go, 'Stop playing right now' and we'll just sing a cappella. I've never been in a band like that, so it's a whole new thing for me."
The Sisterhood Band, which includes Rod Stewart's daughter, Ruby Stewart, will open some dates.
The 68-year-old Tyler toured with Aerosmith last year, but the band was forced to cut a few dates after the singer suffered an undisclosed illness in South America. Aerosmith have also been working in the studio on a few new songs, but guitarist Joe Perry said he's not sure at this point if they will lead to another album.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I'd be more excited if they found Tiny Tim alive and announced he was going to tour.

American rock legend and a talented guy. With comebacks included, Aerosmith had sustained success far beyond most classic rock bands and he is a huge part.
Not so crazy about the country angle but he had yet another hit. I will take country over rap.
But the number of classic songs that this guy created definitely puts him in the highest levels of rock. Still creating and working away. More songs on any album than Gregg wrote from 1971 on. Gets my respect.
Another cool aspect of Aerosmith is that they are all great guys too. Been around them so much over the years and they are easy to work with and treat fans well. Their crew is awesome also. Fun times.
Amazing that Aerosmith still has all members alive and in the band. Rare.

Tough crowd. LOL
Almost 50 years at the top of the charts and selling to arenas and stadiums, he is terrible.
You may not like him but he is packed full of talent. Antithesis of an artist - It is like writing The Stones entire career off because of Emotional Rescue. Those damn hacks. LOL
Steven won't lose any sleep and you guys don't have to buy a ticket. Life is good.

I agree. just go on youtube and see how often tyler shows up at places unannounced and joins in on a song or plays a song on piano just himself and his voice

I'm not a fan of everything he's done, but he certainly is one of the great voices of rock. From what I can see, it also seems like his voice still has a lot of life left in it, which is not true of many of the hard rock singers from the 1970s.
Arena touring, lots of screaming, the rock'n'roll lifestyle, and Old Man Time have definitely taken their toll on the voices of hard rock singers like Brian Johnson and Ian Gillan and David Lee Roth. It does seem like Tyler can still hit some hard notes, maybe not like in 1975, but better than most. Ditto Sammy Hagar. Hard rock is NOT a young man's game, so it's impressive when a guy can pull it off at his age.
As far as his pursuit of a new direction being inartistic, re-read this part of his statement: "It really is beautiful getting out there and singing with a band, where I can look at all the guys and go, 'Stop playing right now' and we'll just sing a cappella. I've never been in a band like that, so it's a whole new thing for me." I think that's pretty impressive, more daring than you might expect.

+1
I agree the guy is a legend, but his solo stuff is certainly not legendary. I dare you to make it all the way through this video.

I thought he already threatened us with his country venture. I've had no interest in Aerosmith since Toys in the Attic. They sold out after that. I never understood how they became so popular. First three albums were great though. The chicks love him, so he will do well with the country fans.

I've had no interest in Aerosmith since................
Well, since forever.

Emotional Rescue was a great record. Weird, but great. Folks always rip the Stones for riding on their big records, then rip the Stones for anything they do outside their big records.

Just meant the song and not the album. Could have used Missed You also. I meant that because they did something different, don't judge the entire career.
So Tyler sings some "country" style songs and tries something a little different. At this stage, why not? He won't come up with another Dream On or Walk This Way anyway. Might as well use a little of the celebrity from the American Idol thing. Company puts up some cash for the venture, top notch band behind him, he will have fun.
The other guys have had outside stuff also between solo albums, Hollywood Vampires, Whitford/St.Holmes, Thin Lizzy etc.
At this stage, he is working and productive so more power to him.
For those that don't like it then don't buy it.

That Tyler country album is terrible. I bought it hoping for the best, but it was bad. The worst part is the "Cornbread, damn I love that stuff" line that just cringe worthy. Maybe if he had gone the Stapleton or Stugill route with more traditional country it could have been something, but it's all poppy modern country.
I love Aerosmith, even some of the stuff after the reunion, but in the last decade it seems Tyler is more focused on chasing fame than his music career with American Idol and then doing what so many veteran artists do once they need a reboot a country album.
Much like later day Aerosmith, he did it with the help of a lot of outside writers. So while he may have written more than Gregg did, he did have a lot of help.
The best country song he ever had part in writing was "What It Takes" from Aerosmith's Pump album.

I really enjoyed Van Halen's A Different Kind Of Truth. It was far heavier than I would have ever imaged from Van Halen in 2012.
I think the most recent Aerosmith came out in 2012 as well and not 2014, however I wasn't a fan. They promoted it as a return to their 70's sound, but it was more of the same type music of their 90's and later releases. My main complaint was it was far too long. It was almost an hour and a half with maybe 30 minutes of somewhat decent material.

Steven Tyler released his first solo album and embarked on a solo tour in 2016, opening a new chapter in his career — and paving the way for Out on a Limb, a documentary about the Aerosmith singer that's set to make its world premiere in May.
Yahoo! has the first preview clip from the film below, which finds Tyler opining, "Most people would rather be certain they’re miserable, rather than take a risk and be happy ... I feel like I’m doing something new again." It's a journey captured by director Casey Tebo, and fans will be able to catch their first full-length look at the end result when Steven Tyler: Out on a Limb makes its debut during the opening night of the 2018 Nashville Film Festival on May 10.
In addition to premiering Out on a Limb at the Nashville Film Festival on May 10, Tyler will celebrate "Steven Tyler Day" in Nashville the same day — the second time the city has officially marked Tyler's achievements in recent months, following his acceptance of the Harmony Award last December. Two days after accepting that honor, he's scheduled to deliver a solo set at the Woods Amphitheater at Fontanel.
"Nashville is a key part of my musical journey and has had an influential place in my career, so this recognition from the city is a tremendous honor," said Tyler in a press release. "I’m also so touched that the Nashville Film Festival selected Steven Tyler: Out on a Limb to kick off opening night of this year’s event with our world premiere."

I agree about Van Halen's "A Different Kind of Truth." Total surprise on how heavy and in your face it is. Also surprising was just how good the Van Halen's sounded. Given EVH was practically dead just a few years before, his performance on that album floored me, frankly. And the kid evidently can not only play a mean ass bass, but supposedly he's a pretty talented arranger and multi-instrumentalist. I just wonder if we'll ever hear his rumored solo album....

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I was a big Aerosmith fan in the early/mid 70''s, had every album, up to Draw The Line, got my chance to see them live in '78, I was too young to drive so my Dad drove my friend and I, hate to come to this thread with negativity, but this show was pathetic! Poor sound, way too loud, half hearted performance by all in the band. Luckily AC/DC opened and they were the saving grace of the evening. After that I tried to listen to Night in the Rutz and Rock in a Hard Place, 2 poor offerings, after that came the radio hit years from the band, no thanks! After that show they never got another nickel of my money..........Peace.........joe
