Steve Vai vs Ralph Macchio Guitar Battle

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

This is good. Remember seeing it in the movie.
But Ralph plays very little. He wanted to play against Steve Via and hired Arlen Roth to help him in the scene but Ralph just couldn't hang with Steve Via. Ralph does play a small amount but most of it was dubbed by Aren Roth, Ry Cooder and Bill Kanengiser. Steve Via, probably the best electric guitar player technically for hard rock and metal living today, plays his own parts of course.

This one is not dubbed. Albert King and Gary Moore

This has always been one of my favorite Steve Vai moments - tears up the tune.
As for the battle, it makes no sense. They go back and forth and then Vai tears it up from 3:00 to 3:30 and Ralph's character never plays that part back. He loses the head to head right there.
Now as for Cooder vs Vai - it is a great battle. That Ralph character is lame - they could have done much better than the Karate Kid for the part.

Eric Clapton nailed it in saying the ending makes no sense because the kid wins with a classical lick?!?

LOL - There is that too.

I always thought it would've been extra cool if Vai held the guitar up over his head and went into the "Crane" stance ....
