Steve Hackett is one of my favorite musicians, and a heck of a guitarist to see live. I'm fortunate to have the chance to see him at a nice small venue tomorrow night. For this tour, he is previewing some new songs from his forthcoming album (The Night Siren, due next month), and for the half of his show where he plays Genesis songs, he is focusing on Wind and Wuthering. Pretty great! See him if you can. He is at the top of his game.

Was just listening to " Live Rails " last night , caught him in 2010 and it was an incredible night , Fire On The Moon was one of the many highlights that night , also Los Endos from my favorite Genesis album " Trick Of The Tail " . Enjoy the show , I'm jealous for sure .

Great show from Steve Hackett last night. The first 'set" was his solo stuff, and the second was all Genesis. Here is a setlist as far as I can determine:

Every Day (from "Spectral Mornings")
El Nino (new song)
Out of Body (from "Wolflight")
The Steppes (from "Defector")
In the Skeleton Gallery (new song)
Behind the Smoke (new song)
Rise Again (from "Darktown")
Serpentine Song (from "To Watch the Storms")
In the Shadow of the Hierophaunt (from "Voyage of the Acolyte")

Eleventh Earl of Mar
One for the Vine
acoustic intro / Blood on the Rooftops
In That Quiet Earth /
Afterglow (these first 5 are Wind and Wuthering)
Inside and Out (W & W outtake released on EP "Spot the Pigeon)
Dance on a Volcano (from Trick of the Tail)
The Musical Box
Firth of Fifth
Los Endos (from Trick of the Tail)

I think that is it. Apparently, earlier in the tour, they did
Anyday" and "Dancing with the Moonlit Knight," but I don't think we got those.

I'm not sure we got EXACTLY the same "first set" of solo Hackett songs, but we got most of those for sure.

One thing I will add is that anyone who has seen Hackett over the past few years knows that he is doing a "Genesis Revisited" part of his show, for which he has a singer, Nad Sylvan, who sounds SO MUCH LIKE PETER GABRIEL THAT IT IS UNCANNY. Well, the amazing thing was hearing this guy sing the Phil songs from "Wind and Wuthering," with Hackett having his guitar up loud in the mix. Suddenly, these songs from that 1977 album sounded much more 1973. In other words, to me, "Wind and Wuthering" has always sounded very different from "Selling England by the Pound" or "Foxtrot," but suddenly, the way it was played last night, it sounded very similar, and all the better for it!!!!!!!

He is a remarkable player, with his own distinctive sound, with absolute mastery. He put on a WORKSHOP in guitar. What a show! I'm still buzzing. I put him right there with Jeff Beck and Adrian Belew. There was so much music in this 140 minute show that I was half wishing it had been 2 seventy minute shows spread out over two nights, just to better absorb it all.

I have used that word/phrase for him before "mastery". Totally agree. Howe is also is in that league .
