Wondering what you guys have, sure there is lots of good vintage equipment in use.
I have my very first stereo, circa 1988, a Sears LXI in the garage, I still like it alot. It plays through some 1990s Fisher speakers with large woofers. The original speakers I trashed in high school. But I do tend to keep and use stuff a long time.
In the house I have my Denon circa 1995 played through some Boston Acoustics of approximately the same age, I could probably use a sub, but a lot of the time it is fine without it.
Oh yeah, now we’re talking! I’m an obsessive when it comes to gear. I stared getting serious when my vinyl collection grew into a respectable collection. My tirst good piece was a Sansui 1000a... plugged my lil Technics knockoff table into its phono stage.... then scored a pair of Polk Monitor 10s to drive. Needless to say...this was mind blowing coming from a Crosley box player lol. Sansui had a bit of a hum... so a grabbed a beautiful Luxman 1040, great receiver! Eventually I became intrigued with tube gear and this is when I go broke. Once I discovered valve-state it was all she wrote. After my first dynaco knockoff push-pull el34 and stand-alone phono-stage (Bellari 130 pushing ADS L520s) I discovered Single-Ended amps with their glorious black backgrounds and lush midrange. Btw...if u can score a pair of ADS L520s you’ll never regret it, tremendous bookshelves! Anyway...i saved and hustled and purchased my dream amp: Councident Dynamo mkii. 8 watts per channel of pure velvet. Upgraded phono stage to Parks Audio Budgie hybrid. Current turntable is a tricked -out SOTA Comet w Rega tonearm....high output moving coil cartridge. Last but not least... all these components driving a tricked-out pair of vintage Klipsch Forte II’s w custom birds-eye maple veneer. Wife-approved! Tubes+Klipsch=audio nirvana
Wow! Those tube amps are incredible I bet. Main thing for me is air movement. I don't know the numbers and spec particulars but I went thru a couple used thrift store amps, jbl, Yamaha, sub par. Finally scored a Denon something or other amp - sounds great, found a pair of big Odyssey speakers, does the trick, I can't push it past halfway, these things are loud .
I have a Yamaha A/V receiver, Audio Technica turntable and an Oppo DVD player (plays all my SACD's, blu-rays, etc). I still have my Bose Acoustimass speakers from the 90's - small cubes and a sub-woofer. I have Bose speakers hung from the ceiling in the back of the room, and Yamaha center speakers in the front and back. I try to buy most of my music in surround sound now, like all of the Steven Wilson remasters of Yes, Tull, King Crimson and XTC. My receiver has a 7-channel enhancer mode that I listen to most 2-channel music with (radio, albums and regular cd's). Most of my neighbors know when my wife isn't home .... beacuse it's blasting....

WENT THRU MANY PHASES OF AUDIO THRU OUT THE YEARS.. I HAVE EQT. FROM BACK IN THE DAY....TODAY ON THE FLOOR.. NO TURN TABLE......DENON INTEGRATED AMP/ YAMAHA T 80 tuner,,, Nakamichi deck,,, denon cd player... Boston Acoustics A 400....connected with hi end cables and inter connects... have tons of classic cassettes recorded years past .. from ttable to cassette , using studio eqt,, great lbrary on tape.....

My dad gave me all his dynaco kits he built plus his Marantz FM receiver and like a dumbass I threw them it for more modern stuff. I still have my Yamaha intergrated amp from 1988. Sounds great through my Boston Acoustics T-830’s

I've got an Audio-Technica turntable plugged into a Sonos speaker, beaming to some more Sonos speakers in rooms around the house.

I have a Marantz 2240B amp, BIC multi-play turntable (although I've never played more than one lp at a time) and Ultralinear speakers. Bought in '76. Also have a couple of Yahama speakers tapped in too. A few indicator lamps are out on the amp but it still sounds sweet.

This thread brings back many good memories. I bought my first stereo way back in 1986. I still use the same Yamaha A-700 amp, and Klipsch KG4 speakers. Back in the old days before you could get a CD player in your car I also had a Nakamichi tape deck, but the motor burned out on it long ago. By that time I finally had a car CD player, so no more need to make copies of everything. I've been through a bunch of CD players through the years, but have a Yamaha 5-Disc changer currently. I can still remember the first time I hooked everything up and played that first CD. One of the happiest days of my life. With many more to follow!
I recently upgraded my dinosaur system for $350 and couldn't be happier!
Started over a year back with a Samsung soundbar ($150) and it came with a wireless subwoofer which sits all the way across the room. That was a Costco on-line purchase.
Then only a month ago I realized it was way past time to upgrade my Panasonic DVD player because it was 19 years old and EVERY DVD skipped. So I went to Best Buy and got a Sony BlueRay/DVD player for only $70. It's got wireless so I am finally out of the dark ages.
When I tried to hook it up though I was puzzled. It's got only HDMI cable connections and my soundbar has only one HDMI input which was already taken by the cable TV box. Oh Sh*t! Couldn't go through my ancient Technics receiver/amp either because it's got only ports for the old round cables, no HDMI.
Back to Best Buy, problem solved. Salesman knew exactly what to do and for another $130 I was up and running. He sold me an HDMI four port switching box and two more HDMI cables. Now both the DVD and the cable TV box are channeled through the soundbar via the HDMI switching box.
For $350 I'm a happy camper! Technics receiver still works great for playing CD's. And I can now watch YouTubes on my old Toshiba 32" HD flat screen and I didn't even have to upgrade to a smart TV. Toshiba has a great picture so why not keep using it?
