Squackett - Tall Ships

This was a project from Chris Squire and Steve Hackett
Tall Ships
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

The Squackett album is a solid one. It's a shame it never got much press. It IS the kind of album that fans of those two musicians might not expect. Despite their prog credentials, they focused on writing relatively short melodic songs with lots of vocal harmonies and not a ton of instrumental voyages.
It made me think somewhat of Alan Parsons Project rather than Genesis or Yes.

I honestly forgot all about this. One of those "I should pick this up" moments that I completely forgot about.
Listening now on Spotify.
Thanks for the reminder

I recently picked up a Steve Hackett DVD - half his stuff, half Genesis stuff, and it was excellent.
Went back and picked up a few of his solo cd's - Amazon had a pack of 5 of them for $17 or $18 dollars - also picked up his new one, that came with a dvd with the surround sound version......
Kind of wondered how I missed all this....

I have said it before on here but it always merits mentioning. Steve Hackett is one of the nicest "rock stars" that I ever met. We didn't even really talk much about music. We talked about cows and farm related stuff for an hour before music even came up. Really good guy and an amazing guitarist.
Shame that more people didn't hear his solo music and even to a degree his work with Genesis. The beauty of his playing is that he can play so many different styles and moods within those styles.

Hackett plays beautiful classical guitar. He has a handful of albums and one DVD that are strictly classical - off the top of my head, there's Bay of Kings, Momentum, Tribute (Segovia songs), Sketches of Satie (Satie songs with Hackett's brother John on flute), and Metamorpheus (with orchestra).
He is very prolific and very eclectic. All of his albums have great guitar playing. His singing and choice of guest singers has its ups and downs for me, but with repeated listening i tend to get it. I think he has been on a particular hot streak with his most recent albums (Night Siren, Wolf Light, Wild Orchids are three that come to mind) and i also recommend his earliest stuff (Voyage of the Acolyte, Spectral Mornings, and Please Dont Touch).
I think the only album of his that i really dont love is Blues With A Feeling, but a few of his 80s / early 90s albums are victims of production trends of the time.
