Speaking of harp players...

Who are some of your favorite players? I really like Ace. Butterfield, Cotton, and Little Walter.
Toot Thielmans from a different school, as well.
I know there are tons of others. Just opening things up...
Who else?
eap,
Steve

Jason Ricci
Charlie Musselwhite
James Harman
Lester Butler

Norton Buffalo
Magic Dick (J. Geils)
Junior Wells

Jimmy Hall, y'all!
Another Mobile home boy - the late, Topper Price.

I always enjoyed it when Hook Herrera joined ABB at the Beacon shows

Charlie McCoy.

Jim Essery

2 really good ones.

I always really liked Alan Wilson aka the Blind Owl of Canned Heat fame. He could really bend some notes!

Bob Dylan.

John Mayall
The Turning Point is one good CD ! Room to Move !

Steve Miller
He & Norton Buffalo did an awesome dueling harps part at a Music Hall show in Boston back in the day (around when Fly Like An Eagle was out)
also Rick Estrin, the singer/harp player in Little Charlie & the Nightcats
"On the lickin' stick, Mr. Magic Dick" -- he's tops in my book

Howard Levy from the Flecktones. (Not the first that would come to mind, but of the ones not already mentioned....)

Mick Jagger. Seriously.
Good call on Rick Estrin. Charlie Batty (guitarist for Little Charlie & the Night Cats) is also a great harp player.

Not mentioning the GOAT sooner was like discussing Baseball and forgetting to talk about Babe Ruth

Little Walter & Junior Wells are right there w/Sonny Boy Williamson -- then James Cotton.......
Magic Dick really got me into all these players -- his harp playing in J. Geils was The Bomb
Didn't know Charlie Baty was a harp player too Rusty -- his guitar solo on Ten Years Ago, from their live record -- fan-tastic

Hey Stephen! The last time that I saw them perform, during the encore Charlie hung the guitar around Rick Estrin's neck. Rick had a "staged" look of surprise on his face but then began to play some pretty decent lead guitar. Meanwhile, Charlie took out a harp and began to blow like a madman! I think the two met in college when both were known for their harp skills. I sure miss seeing them play!

re: Sonny Boy. What separates the all time greats (Beatles; Stones; Bob Marley) from others is the creative writing part. No Blues Harp player left behind greater legacy of Songwriting that Mr. Miller.
and for any NYers John Mayall is at the Iridium next Tues/Wed

Sonny Boy was just smooth and fluent, Cool just seeped from his pores.

Sonny Boy was the man. I remember stories relating to his tour of England with the Yardbirds. He had a fancy bowler and suit; apparently met some Royalty. Back home in Helena none of his drinking buddies believed him

Sonny Boy Williamson and Lee Oskar

He's never been in the limelight, never gotten much notoriety outside of the Bay area and in fact I know that's he's gone through periods in his life when he hasn't played music at all. But Mark Ford (Robben's brother) is really, REALLY good! Saw the Ford Blues Band in January 2016 with all three brothers on board (Pat on drums) so I know that Mark can certainly still play that harp.............

Rusty the only thing I would add to your post is it should be the Late, Great Topper Price. Sometimes he would be a little too loaded and his playing would get pitchy, but when he was on, he slayed me. Some of my musical highlights were when he'd drop by the members jam at Magic City Blues Society and sit in. Nothing like playing Statesboro Blues and trading off with Topper.
I'm not much of a metalhead, but if anyone hasn't heard his harp on Brother Cain's Ain't Got No Shame....wow. Hot as a nymphomanic in a convent

Always like Thom Ducette!
Overexposure and the obvious answer be damned: John Popper is a spectacular harp player.
Agree with the Mick Jagger assessment for the riffs on Gimmie Shelter alone.
**Also, I don't know who it is that plays harp on Jimmy Buffett's Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw but that is some surreal playing. A lot of those Buffett 70s hits have some great harp on them. Don't know who it is but he's great.
Mickey Raphael is also a great one.
