Sonic Highways

Did anyone watch this on HBO last night? I did and it was really good. The Foo Fighters traveled to 8 different cities and spent a week in each city. They recorded one song in each city for the upcoming album. Last night's episode was in Chicago, and Dave Grohl interviewed several musicians including Buddy Guy, Joe Walsh, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmie Vaughan, Rick Nielsen, etc. After he did the interviews in each city, he took the transcripts of each interview, and wrote certain words down, and that's how he came up with the songs for the album. If you haven't watched it, you should. Next week's episode will be in Washington DC.

They streamed their live show on the HBO Facebook page and on Livestream - they played the Cubby Bear, a small venue right next to Wrigley Field . They played from 11pm-1:30am and it rocked..........
They had the lead singer from Naked Raygun do a song - Grohl picked the Cubby Bear because that is where he saw his first punk show - Naked Raygun..... they also had Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick do Stiff Competition and Surrender from Cheap Trick and the new song from Chicago. Awesome show.........

I missed the live show afterwards. I'm sure it was great. Would love to see the Foo Fighters live at some point. Hopefully they'll come to Dallas when they tour for this album.

Thanks for the reminder I watched it this morning. This looks very interesting. I learned a lot about the Chicago punk scene. One of my old drinking buddies is Jake Burns, guitarist from Stiff Little Fingers, he mostly told stories of drinking with Rory Gallagher as he knows I'm not much of a Punk music fan. Do you know how many cities they are visiting?

There's 7 more episodes with 7 cities. The others will be Washington DC, Seattle, Austin, Nashville, New Orleans, Los Angeles, & New York City.
