Songs you wish the ABB had played more?

what songs do you wish the ABB had played more at their concerts?
my list
1.Firing Line
2.Delta Blue-Just Gregg on Piano
3.From the madness of the west-I would of loved to hear Derek,Warren and oteil tear this up
4.Rivers gonna rise-Warren haynes Band...
5.Just Another rider-Glad they finally played this one in October.
6.God Rest his soul-I don't think this was ever played live--not sure??
7.Politician-Cream
8.Angeline
9.Can't get to heaven on a ten dollar bill-I believe it was a song dickey wrote.
10.If heartaches were nickels--This song has the ABB wrote all over it...don't think they ever played it.

"Jelly Jelly"
"Just ain't easy"
"Stand back"
"Hot 'Lanta"
"Nevertheless"

any song they would get together to play, would be my wish

I did particularly like when they jammed out Desmedona,
Layla

Of the songs the final version of the ABB performed live (and not just as a backing band to a guest performer), I wish these had been in rotation more often:
High Falls
True Gravity
Kind of Bird
High Cost of Low Living
Old Friend
Layla
Loan Me a Dime
Just Ain't Easy
Need Your Love So Bad
Oncoming Traffic
These Days
Why Does Love Have to Be Sad

Desdemona for sure
Kind of Bird (quintessential dickey imo)
High Cost of Low Living (outro live is sick)
Franklin's Tower (never seen live but would love to)
Stormy Monday (no slide from warren or derek, as much as I love it and don't get me wrong, its better with reverse bends and finger work imo)

All those songs that Gregg says he has been working on over the years.
Sorry couldn't resist. 😛

It's kind of academic for us Europeans as they never played a note here after 1991 but let's play along anyway.
Nobody Knows
Lots of DB songs but then they didn't play those because they were DB songs, eg Seven Turns. BWIAB.

Of course significant circumstances prevented it being played more, but I loved JJ's Alley.

Outskirts of Town

It Ain't Over Yet

Can't Lose What You Never Had
Win,Lose or Draw
Nevertheless
High Falls
Stormy Monday
Outskirts of Town
Jelly Jelly

Definitely JJ's Alley, great one -- also Nobody Knows, Jelly Jelly and/or Outskirts

Wish there was a live version of Stand back with Duane.....Jelly Jelly is the exact same chord changes as outskirts and the same key.....I really think Jelly Jelly was an after thought for B&S and I don't think it was ever played live....
Not to say it's not a great version because it smokes but I really don't think they ever intended on playing it live and was album filler...

Nobody Knows. I wonder when the last time they played it?
Firing Line - Even though Gregg always butchered the lyrics.
And while a Gregg song, not ABB, I love the song Rain. I missed hearing it several years ago at the Beacon by one night. It was the year Gregg would do a small set after the set break with just him on a grand piano.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

I would have like to hear Instrumental Illness and Layla one more time before the end.

Egypt!

What's weird is Gregg gave songwriting credit when it was initially "Early Morning Blues" (the smoking outro on the B&S special edition is a revelation). Then he re-recorded the lyrics as "Jelly Jelly" but pulled a Robert Plant and claimed writing credit. Really odd considering he always gave credit on cover tunes. Still, although it's pretty standard slow blues, I think it's the track that really melds Dickey's stinging guitar and Chuck's piano better than any of the old blues tunes the Allmans did during the Chuck/Lamar era.

I do believe Billy Eckstine is the writer of Jelly Jelly
go to 1:48 to hear the vocals the 2nd and 3rd verse are identical as the ABB Jelly Jelly

I didn't realize how long my list was going to be, but its a lot longer than I expected. I included songs that The Brothers played at least once or appeared on one of their studio recordings and The Dreams boxed set but never played live.
Oncoming Traffic
Nevertheless
God rest His Soul
Hey Jude
Win Lose or Draw
Pegasus
Cant Take It With you
Just Aint Easy
Blind Love
Mystery Woman
Those Things you used To do
Leavin
Never Knew How much I needed You
The Judgement
From The Madness of The West
I Beg Of you
Gamblers Roll
Low Down Dirty Mean
It Aint over Yet
Bad Rain
Nobody Knows
Desert Blues
Kind Of Bird
Get On with Your Life
High Cost of Low Living
Firing Line
Im not Crying
Dimples
Please Call Home
Good Times Don't Fade Away
JJ's Alley
Sailin across The Devil's sea
Les Brer
High Falls
True Gravity
Whats Done is Done
Temptation is a Gun
Hideaway
All Night Train
Little Martha

I forgot to add Duane's Tune which was a song off Dickey's Pattern Disruptive. The Brother's played Duane's Tune occasionally during the 89 Tour. Another great Dickey instrumental

Cant Take It With you
Nevertheless
High Cost of Low Living
Just Aint Easy
Blind Love
Pegasus
Low Down Dirty Mean
Bad Rain
Nobody Knows
Get On with Your Life
Firing Line

Why didn't they play shows with set-lists like this?......Throw the hard core fans a bone every once in a while? Jesus, the Dead did it ALL THE TIME.

Interesting question, some of the songs I thought were rarely played actually were played fairly often.

Yup, and Gregg claimed songwriting credit rather than crediting Eckstine and Hines. Pretty out of character for him.

High Cost Of Low Living and Egypt were the two best new songs the band played in the last 15 years, in my opinion. Of course, they very rarely played either of them, because.....wait, why didn't they play those more often again?
I was just listening to the excellent 7/24/05 Saratoga show, which features amazing, magical versions of both tunes. On the one hand, I was puzzled more than ever by why Egypt fell completely out of the rotation and High Cost became a rarity. This Saratoga version sounds the next big epic Allman Brothers classic, but it never quite took that spot.
On the other hand, look at the glass half-full. The Warren/Derek lineup did create some awesome tunes that hold up very well, even if they weren't played as often as I might have liked.

Outskirts of Town
Nevertheless
Get On With Your Life
Jelly Jelly

Firing Line - Even though Gregg always butchered the lyrics
I actually saw the last Firing Line. 8-24-07 in Clarkston, MI
It was a great show.

It was a great show.
The last time I heard it live was at Common Ground Fest in Lansing. the lyrics Gregg tried to sing were God Awful. I think it was in 2005.
They always knocked it out of the park at Pine Knob. I have SO many memories of that place as I lived right by there. Didn't like the two times they played at Meadowbrook. Beautiful venue but to me, it just didn't have the right vibe for an ABB show.
As an aside, I went back home two years ago and hadn't been to Pine Knob since I moved to Chicago in 2005. Saw The J. Geils Band and Chris Robinson opened. Awesome show! Only time I have seen J. Geils and they have always loved playing Detroit. I hope to get back there for something this summer.

It was a unique show that night. The final version of "Firing Line" and they also did "Turn On Your Lovelight" for the only time outside the Beacon. It was played 6 times total, 5 of which were at the Beacon. I feel lucky to have seen that show.

Les Brier - ABB played this tune and great version on the Oct 27th show. Come & go, Les, Dreams and WP in an unbelieveable set.
