Howdy folks -

Sorry for a couple of rocky days on the server.  My host, who has actually been quite good for several years, decided to cut our memory allocation in half without letting me know in advance so I had time to react.  After getting a run around from their tech support, I realized I had no choice but to rapidly find a new host and migrate the site.  So we started that at 11AM this morning and at this point (5PM) it seems to be up and running OK.  I found one plugin (WordPress lingo for things that add features to your site) that was a real hog - not a visible user feature either - and disabled it and things got a LOT faster.  Fingers crossed for some smooth(er) sailing.  Thanks for your patience.

And oh, in the middle of trying to get the site up before deciding we had to migrate, I had to load a backup from September 2 and 1PM, so yes, some posts disappeared.  Sorry about that but the site was absolutely dead in the water and got no help from support.  For the IT guys reading this, they could have temporarily given us some breathing room by simply increasing the memory allocated to the site back to what it was before they chopped it - a single number in a config file.  Sigh.

Always something!

Rowland

To all - you're welcome!  The new host seems a lot better.  Your first visits to pages may be slower as your browser builds a cache of things like images, but then if your experience mirrors mine, it gets pretty fast - most page loads are well under 2s here.  Hope it's the same for you all!

Cheers,

Rowland

Cool it's working out.  I've had to do the "click the squares with...." trip to prove I am a human or whatever every time I've logged in.  No big deal, just an oddity it has asked three X in a row.  Guess they need more Hamster's in that wheel here in Montucky to make the interwebs work better?

@gotdrumz Yeah it doesn't remember that you clicked before.  It does help keep the bots from logging into the site and trying to read all the thousands of forum posts and bogging down the machine.  Hopefully a small inconvenience but one that keeps the site running better and information safer!
