Scott Sharrard interview about New Gregg Allman Album

Works for me!

Scott seems like a cool guy, His playing over the years with Gregg has improved dramatically, he probably gets bored playing the same songs over and over. Hopefully they come up with some good stuff.

I guess there's two ways to look at this. If you have the recent Back To Macon DVD, there are extensive interviews with band members. Scott says that the variety of the material in Gregg Allman And Friends is "Right in my wheelhouse": Soul, R&B, Blues, Jazz and Rock. Gregg may play a lot of the same songs but he DOES mix in a great variety of styles. He's also promoted Sharrard to musical director, does the Sharrard tune Love Like Kerosene, and word is there will be more tunes that Sharrard either wrote or co-wrote on the new record. This is a tremendous opportunity for Sharrard to shine and also get his name out there. I actually kind of doubt that he is bored. Sharrard also said in a recent interview posted here that "Gregg is the greatest Soul/Blues singer alive." I think he really appreciates where he's at.

You're right Rob, there are two ways to look at everything. For this life long fan, the lack of diversity in Gregg's set lists over the years have driven me to look elsewhere for my music fixes. I believe any musician worth his salt ..."gets bored"....but, if it is a good paycheck, well, there is your answer. Imho, you are just going through the motions. For example, take a look at how Warren Haynes stays occupied, how many solo CDs?...How many artists has he teamed up with? Gov't Mule, the Bros, The Dead...Different styles, different timing, the list goes on and on. My vote?...Sharrard is bored to tears...

I'd certainly be bored. Recording with someone I consider the greatest Soul/Blues singer alive, at the historic, FAME Studio in Muscle Shoals...............where many of the great Soul records of the 60's were made...............oh yeah...........boring, boring, boring................

BIGV, you might be bored with Gregg, but I doubt Scott is bored with such a sweet gig. I saw Gregg twice last year and each show was relatively unique. Yes, there are going to be some usual suspects in the set list, but they mix it up much more than Gregg did a decade or two ago. And now they are recording a new album with some fresh material, should be interesting.

Mr. Negative strikes again. Tell us, is there any person or anything in this world that you like? 😛

Scott Sharrard is a player, master of many styles and this is a dream job. He gets plenty of playing time with other top notch players, great gigs.
No more half empty halls with lousy food and the death march on the road trying to make a few bucks. He doesn't seem bored at all.
Hater's gonna hate. Why dontcha go start a threat in the Whippin Post about GA's Tired Old Setlist and how you want to turn the clock back 50 years, oh and add Dickey Betts gettin' fired from ABB, how much you miss DTB and how you hate Susan's voice. Y'know. Everyone will want to go on about all that OVER THERE>

Yippee-Ti-Yi-Yay. Everything I was thinking wrapped up in a nifty three paragraphs.

Haha...OK, I love rack of lamb and chateauneuf du pape, beautiful women, convertibles with 5 speed manual transmissions on an open road, early Allman Brothers, Lowell George's voice, John Hiatt's view of the world and just about anything that upsets Liberals......

No conservatives were playing that thrilling 60's music y'all want so badly to hear live again.
They were all hippie commune free love balling smoking tripping and waiting for the establishment to come crumbling down.
Here. Maybe you need to remind yourself what's important:

I remember last year Gregg posting a photo he was in the studio with Bill Evans.

Yeah Scott sounds incredibly bored with playing with Gregg in this interview.

You know, Gregg has really taken great care of me. I’ve been playing with the band for almost eight years and the band has been kind of like, I don’t know, it’s been like sort of an incubator for me as a musician, as a songwriter, and now I’m his band leader so I’m leading the band for him, doing the arrangements, working with the guys on his behalf, writing songs with him. I mean, he’s really embraced me and helped me grow also as a person in the process. It’s been a great opportunity.
Yes, Scott Sharrard sounds infinitely bored, doesn't he?
