Scorpions,Uli Jon Roth Era

One of my fav songs they did during his time in the band. The bass in this really drives the rhythm, stays in the pocket but really jams out.
This is My Song
Uli Jon Roth - Polar Nights [Scorpions] (Live in Copenhagen, October 2nd, 2014)
SCORPIONS/MICHAEL SCHENKER [ COAST TO COAST ] LIVE,2006
Europe ft Michael Schenker - Lights Out (Live At Sweden Rock "30th Anniversary Show")
UFO - Rock Bottom live at Wacken 2009
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I saw Uli about a month ago. Spectacular.
He had Andy Timmons and then Jennifer Batten opening.
Uli had two other guitarists with him and both were absolutely smoking too. 3 part harmonies just out of this world. He was touring The Scorpions Revisited Tour so pretty much all Scorpions Tokyo Tapes Era.
Plus a final jam with Andy and Jennifer on a few Hendrix songs.
Almost 6 hours of music in all. Price? The best part $25.

Fly To The Rainbow
Uli at the Brass Monkey
The first band was actually Uli's band. Only played one song but it smoked. Was glad when I saw them turn up later. I thought the poor guys only got one song.
Uli was playing all that classical metal stuff 20 years before the rest. His playing is so effortless and he is so relaxed. Almost as if he is napping while playing extremely complicated leads. Seeing him in a tiny club was wild.

Nice videos, thanks. I never had the chance to see him yet. Eddie Trunk had him on a podcast recently, good interview and he talked about the your with Timmons and Batten. He was supposed to come through Indy a few years ago on one of those guitar tours with Schenker and West , but it got cancelled due to Leslie having some health issues.

Not sure how he can keep a tour like that going for such a low price. Uli doesn't normally have such a large band. Plus when you add the openers.
Jennifer Batten has no band and plays to a recorded back track with video showing on a screen. She does a Classic Riff Medley which is pretty cool with some ABB content.
The jams at the end of the night were great. You do have to survive Uli's singing.
😉
Luckily Uli has added a vocalist over the years but I guess he still likes to sing a couple.

I saw the Scorpions a couple of summers ago. Only time I have seen them.
Tesla opened.I LOVE Tesla. Had seen them several times since their first album came out in '86 or something.
My buddy who is really in to this kind of music and I went together. The Scorpions come are on after a great Tesla set and he departs. He comes back and I said "you just missed The Zoo", my favorite Scorpions song. He just shrugged his shoulders and gave me a Tesla concert shirt from the souvenir stand.
I said well that's cool and all but you missed "The Zoo!"

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

The Uli era of the Scorpions was so different to the 80s version. His Hendrix vibe gave it a much different vibe which is why they parted ways as the direction that he was going did not match theirs. Some of the greatest 70s hard rock IMO.
Tokyo Tapes is a true classic live album.

He invented the Sky guitar which I am amazed never caught on bigger as the extra frets give so much access to the high range. I wanted one when they came out with a signature series but they were so expensive.
He has an added touch of an auto tuner in the peg head. It worked so well. Almost three hours and so perfectly in tune. If a string slips out of tune it is immediately corrected. Seen similar concepts but none work this well.
If you have some time, this is a great rig rundown.

Thanks for the rig rundown. I love watching that stuff . Uli is one of the masters.
Yeah..Tokyo Tapes is a classic. I dont know how many t times I listened to that when I was in high school . I would put that on at night when I would go to bed and drift off sleeping to that. His playing is so effortless . I wish I could play that fluid ...I feel like I am trying to strangle the neck at times.
I am a big fan of the Euro metal hard rock metal stuff. Deep Purple, early Scorpions and Whitesnake,MSG,UFO,Gary Moore,Rainbow,Saxon.
Uli's sky guitar has one humbucker and maybe a piezo neck pup from what I could make of the video. Great tone.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I love the 20:30 min mark of the video where Uli cranks into his guitar and one of his pedals and the guy that is doing the interview covers his ears and Uli just smiles and lays into his guitar...yeah..thats hard rock man! Uli looks like he does not age at all. What a classic!

He hits that pedal once and creates the sound of destruction for a minute or two.
That guitar is so cool. No overdrive pedal or pre-amp/gain in the amp. The guitar just adds so much db that it gets nice and raunchy. Then dial back on the controls and clean strat sound.
Only $14000.
My wife said no. My reasoning is that we spend more on vehicles and only have them for a few years. I would have the guitar for life. Makes sense to me. 😛
