This premiered last Sunday 6/10 but AXS aired it again last night and I picked it up and watched on my DVR.

This is a MUST see folks. LOVE this version of Santana's band. Of course there is the muscular percussion section that you are always going to get at a Santana show. And you can watch Oye Como Va in the link above. At first I was nearly certain that was Michael Shrieve on drums. Looking at the credits I see it's actually Graham Lear.

This version of Santana featured Scotsman Alex Ligertwood on lead vocals. I really dug Ligertwood when I caught an unbelievable Santana show featuring him at The Mountain Winery circa 1987. To my knowledge Alex Ligertwood was with Santana for most of the 80's. He's also an excellent rhythm guitar player.

At around the halfway mark of this righteous one hour set, none other than Herbie Hancock joins the band for the 10 minute jazz instrumental Incident at Neshabur. At this point this show elevates up into semi-religious category. I am not joking around people. Carlos' guitar playing on Incident can only be described as lovely, ethereal and spiritual.

Simply cannot recommend this one anymore. What would I do without AXS? I'm sure they'll be running this one again, do a search if you get AXS.

Carlos was definitely on top of his game for this show! One of the best live performance AXS has shown. I wish they would reach back in the vault and show more concerts like this. An absolute must see.

Thanks, I always liked the 80's version of Santana, especially enjoyed the Shango and Zebop albums.

I enjoyed Alex Ligertwood in Santana and have always had a soft spot in my heart from the Shango album, which came out right when my music obsession in my early teens had kicked in. I've always thought it was a highly underrated album.

And I believe that is Graham Lear on drums.

I will definitely check out AXS for this performance. Here are a couple clips, including a great No Where To Run:

hotatlantatim is correct. Watching it again, they credit all musicians at the start of the show rather than the end as usual. That's Graham Lear on drums, not Michael Shrieve.

Watched this the other night. Wish more of the US Festival performances would get released. Also, someone needs to license the Old Grey Whistle Test shows for a channel like AXS.

I don't get AXS unfortunately, but for me, nothing tops the Woodstock performance. I'm so grateful it was filmed.

Tanglewood 1970 is my favorite Santana performance. This deserves a legit release.

The Chicago show from Tanglewood is great as well.

For those of you who don't get AXS, I was extremely pleased to find Incident at Neshabur on youtube. You'll have to excuse the on-screen graphics, but I think you'll be very happy as the entire song featuring Herbie Hancock is here.
