I had never heard of Ron Pope when I got an email alert about tix going on sale. Upon a search I bumped into a couple acoustic videos of just him playing and singing. I'm not adverse to checking out new music so I grabbed a couple tix for me and Mama. Fun night. There's a beauty in simplicity and the Storytellers format works well that theorem. A sweet young lady Savannah Conley opened and played 7 songs with just herself and an acoustic guitar. Ron bounced from piano to acoustic guitar for his set with more talking than playing songs. It was an intimate show where he shared the story for every song he played (I cut out the stories on the vid's) He's been around for 10 years or so and talked of family, relationships, college, and collaborations that drove the content of his songs. He started out in a NY band called the District and had the Gents from the band get together for his 2 song encore. One of the members he talked of was his favorite collaborator and close friend Zach Berkman who co-wrote some of his more popular numbers and jumps in when he gets stuck on a song. They seem to share a special bond there. Zach played the lone acoustic and sang lead for the acapella style encores. Here's a couple pic's and vid's.
