A rare British television ad for the cereal featuring a rollicking number from Mick Jagger and company is making the rounds this week. The jingle, believed to have been recorded in either 1963 or 1964, features Jagger singing about “Rice Krispies for you and you and you,” while accompanied by a Chuck Berry-esque guitar lick that sounds like it could have been pulled straight from “Around and Around,” which, incidentally, the Stones recorded a hit cover of in roughly the same period.

"This is "Come On" by Chuck Berry, words changed but the identical progression. The Stones released their 1963 version of Come On on the recent GRRR greatest hits album. "

The writing on this song is credited to Brian Jones. Legend has it that it was actually written by the band in late 62/early 63 when Brian was still the leader. As the listed song writer Brian took the lion share. Mick and Keith learned from this and when Andrew came into the mix, Brian never got song writing credit again - even when he clearly contributed to driving the songs direction. (Ruby Tuesday, Paint it Black, rice krispies,Under My Thumb, Lady Jane, etc)
:P 😛 😛 😮

Very cool post - Rollings Stones, surreal advert! Sorry I meant cereal advert. Don't know about the Chuck Berry progression, seems most early Stones was Chuck Berry. Re songwriting credits/payments Brian Jones, etc. there is an interesting book out there called Golden Stone on Brian Jones, fairly good job of injecting some character into this forgotten and faceless Rolling Stone. Not amazing writing, but the details on the circumstances of his death make for a good murder mystery.
