so on a rainy sunday i watched the special of the induction ceremony. I don't understand why Ringo Starr just got in. Wasn't he a member with rest of the Beatles?

do they now just induct people again for other bands they are in and if so, how pray tell does Ringo Starr get in? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was once a great idea but now ??? what great acts are now out there.

I don't know about the rest of you but my listening is basically music from the 60s 70s and 80s. They are beating a dead horse digging up the people now getting into the Hall of Fame. Lets face it, there is not a great pipeline of rock music with new bands coming forward these days in our beloved genre.

And Ringo? Maybe someone can please explain. I have no idea about the other inductees as well. Don't know much about Greenday except they had a Broadway show recently

The Beatles got in together in 1988. Lennon was inducted in 1994, McCartney in 1999, Harrison in 2004, and now Ringo in 2015. Here's some people I hope get inducted:

Deep Purple
Thin Lizzy
Ted Nugent
Iron maiden
Judas Priest
Motorhead
The Moody Blues
Little Feat
UFO
Jethro Tull
Joe Cocker
Chubby Checker

There's others, but those came into my head just now.

Chubby Checker

Interesting list. I would hope that 4 of these NEVER get in and 6 do, imho.

As for this year, while I did not get to see the induction, I can tell you that they finally inducted one of the greatest rock stars to ever grace a stage, the most original rocker and the most influential. I am speaking, of course, of Mr. Lou Reed. And while the VU were already in, some of Lou's best work was as a solo artist. Too bad he couldn't be there, as he would have had some choice words. I hope someone did him justice.

Ringo didn't get inducted for his solo career per se. He got the "Award For Musical Excellence" this year which according to the HOF "This category, which replaced sidemen, honors those musicians, producers and others who have spent their careers out of the spotlight working with major artists on various parts of their recording and live careers."

Other people inducted in this group in the past are Tom Dowd, the E Street Band, Leon Russell & Glyn Johns.

So it's not exactly for his solo career, but as a contributor to music. However, their description for that award doesn't really fit Ringo as it's not like he spent his career out of the spotlight. Likely they wanted to somehow get him in again and just used this category to make it happen.

Clapton is in 3 times already, he's been a sideman and a guest on 100's of albums looks like he can get in again.

Duane should get in for his work as a sideman as well.

The R&R HOF has it's issues, but it's always a fun topic of discussion.

It's somewhat arbitrary as to who gets in/nominated and who doesn't.

Anyone who believes Ted Nugent should not get in, is living in a dream world, allowing politics to cloud their judgement.

Since SRV got in this year, I'd say the biggest current eligible snubs are:

Deep Purple
The Meters
Taj Mahal

Good luck getting any metal or prog bands in the hall it seems those get shut down immediately.

**************

EC is the ONLY person to be inducted 3 times. Once as a solo artist, the Yardbirds and Cream. Theoretically, he could still get in with Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Delaney and Bonnie, and as you mentioned, a sideman.

Steppenwolf! John Kay wrote some of the greatest songs in rock & roll history. Listen to the Monster album. I saw his latest version of the band last year. John Kay still brings it.

too much ROCK in Priest, Motorhead, & Maiden? 😉 Kinda the string of heavy metal hitters, following Sabbath of course. if Metallica gets in, those 3 should. hell, Priest, Motorhead, & Maiden can all STILL bring it live. props for the Age-d Rockers!!!

Patti Smith gave voice to Lou I believe, fitting.

Interesting list. I would put them all in but Jethro Tull, Yes and definitely Steppenwolf. Just my opinion of course.

How the hell Bad Company is not in a head scratcher.

I think the mild disagreement here and there on this website shows some of the difficulty and/or reasons this or that band is not in the hall yet, that and the fact that Jann Wenner is still alive 😉
