Ritchie Blackmore has gotten over his bad feelings about Deep Purple, and he’d play with them again if he was invited, he’s said.

The guitarist co-founded he iconic British outfit in 1968 and played a leading role in all lineups until they split up in 1975. He took part in the reunion of the Mark II band lineup in 1984 but quit in 1993 – and spent many years making negative comments about his former colleagues.

Asked about his feelings for the band now, Blackmore told The Guardian that he “bears no malice” and that he’d agree to work with them if he received an invitation – but he added: “It’s probably not probable, though.”

His revamped version of Rainbow are about to release their first recordings, and they’ll perform four dates in the U.K. next month. Though it would appear that his career is enjoying a purple patch – and despite a comment he recently made about his daughter making him laugh – he remains determined to avoid having any fun.

“I work very hard at not having fun,” Blackmore noted. “I don’t think the world is a fun place. I’m very content in my own mind – but fun, I’m not too sure about. I don’t quite know what fun is. I don’t know why I should walk around with a perpetual grin on my face, saying everything’s wonderful. I just don’t fit into the fun area. A lot of musicians go, ‘That was fun.’ I like to think that music is very serious. It’s not fun. I’m not one of those guys that likes jamming with people and having fun. Music is too serious. I don’t feel like I can relate if I’m having fun.”

Still, he’s grateful for some things. “It’s hard work and it’s really gratifying to do,” he said. “But fun? Fun is where someone tells a joke and they laugh for 10 seconds. Music’s much deeper than that.”

Ritchie is just a ray of sunshine, guarantee you he will never get an invite from Ian Gillan to play in DP ever again. A great player he is though.

Sounds like Ritchie is exactly the same arrogant curmudgeon he's always been. As if they'd ask him back when they've been able to get along fine both musically and personally with Steve Morse in the guitar slot, for what, 25 years now?

Sounds like he takes himself a tad too seriously. Also -he's no Steve Morse.

I think some may be misunderstanding and throwing some unwarranted negativity.

He has been asked these questions for 30 years and when he says that the hard feelings are gone, I don't think that means he wants to get the band back together. Definitely not about cash for Ritchie as he has spent 30 years doing everything possible to not go "commercial" and cash in.

Steve Morse has said that he would love a jam with Ritchie. Maybe one day.

I dont think Gillan, Glover, and Paice have any desire.

Ritchie is notorious for messing with reporters. Some of his answers are clearly facetious.

I was pretty shocked when Ritchie announced these Rainbow shows back in 2015. It seems like he vehemently wanted nothing to RNR for many years. I new he was being sued about lack of promotion for the last Blackmores Night release. I thought maybe he needed the cash or something. I think I got my time lines mixed up on that though. I went back and researched and those shows were announced before any of that went down, I believe. could be wrong though.

Canadian Mule is right, it can't be about the money since he was doing very "non commercial work" but it was pretty successful for him. The whole DP thing he mentioned and why, who knows.

I wouldn't mind to see he maybe revamp this Rainbow lineup except Ronnie and bring some more rocker muscle into the band and see what could happen.

Ritchie is a big practical joker, who knows with him sometimes what he's thinking, I saw the Steve Morse Deep Purple twice thought they were pretty good. Too me, Ritchie is the guitarist I want to see. Would have loved to see the Tommy Bolin version, Come Taste The Band rocks...

I will ALWAYS prefer to see the originator over a replicator. I love Blackmore's work with Deep Purple. I caught Deep Purple once on the Perfect Strangers tour @the Meadowlands Arena in 1985 and it was guitar wizardry that only Richie can conjure up. Smokin' show. Morse is able, but Blackmore is the man who created that sound.

I kinda see Purple as almost a different band with RB out and Steve in.
The music has changed in some ways and you dont have the traditional
DP stamp song for song since Ritchie is no loger involved .Its been
that way for 20 plus years now. Especially on the last two releases with Ezrin
producing them. Yes they will be known for those monster classics, but it
has been a nice change of pace to here them open they're wings,
experiment more with different song structures along with Steve's contribution
to see what type of band and different directions they can go and be . It's
refreshing in a sense. If InFinite is they're last one , than so be it. I feel it is the're strongest
since Steve has been in the band, along with Now What?!

I love Blackmore just as much everyone else. Probably my favorite guitar player
along with Page. But I would be very suprised if he ever played a gig with the core
members again.

Looks like he has mentioned in again in a recent interview. I wonder whats going on in his head. It seemed he left rock music for good, but as we know now, Rainbow the last 2 summers and now the talk of DP.

http://teamrock.com/news/2017-07-18/ritchie-blackmore-open-to-final-deep-purple-show

I listened to an interview with Gillan a few weeks ago and it really sounds like From him when this tour is over that's going to be it. He is moving on. Roger and Paice did not seem that definite in other interviews. I think they were more done with the large scale touring they have been doing.

The idea would be intriguing of a one off show with RB.
