Sad news from the 'Shoals.  This guy played in the studio and on stages with just about everybody.  He is missed already.

Oh hell that is sad news. One of my drummer heroes. As tasty a player as they come. RIP Roger.

He plays drums on this.

Duane Allman and others have related when Duane first suggested covering this Beatles song which was then on the charts, Wilson had heard the Beatles original on the radio but Wilson thought the Beatles were singing " Hey Jew". They quickly corrected him.

Many of his friends thought this was probably Hawkins in the groove the best.

And this according to what I just read was his personal favorite of his drumming sessions and he was real proud of his work on several singles by Aretha Franklin.

I liked the part in the article where Roger tells of watching Aretha Franklin and her sisters do the "sock it to me" vocals on "R-E-S-P-E-C-T". “I never realized what kind of history was being made, but I knew that I liked it a lot.”
