Sad to see that Mama Louise Hudson has passed.

Sad news, indeed.  I guess that like an army, a rock and roll band travels on its stomach.  Thanks to Mama Louise for fortifying the band in its infancy.  A trip to Macon was never complete without at least one meal at the H.  The H is still a good place for victuals, but I'd be lying if I said that it didn't suffer when Mama sold her interests and stepped down.  There was nothing like attending a show in Macon (ABB, Tedeschi/Trucks, Mule etc.) and running into the same folks that you watched the show with at the H the next day.  Manna from Heaven ... Mama is Manna ... Mama Louise is serving Duane, Berry, Gregg and Butch (also Red Dog and Kim) at the celestial buffet tonight!  Mama Louise will be missed by everybody!

@steved I just might've mis-typed that.  I apologize if I got that wrong.  I am probably thinking of another roadie.  I have memory issues from time to time. Mike Callahan is who I meant to say.  Mike, Twiggs and Joe Dan - all at Mamma's heavenly buffet.

Apologies to all - especially to Kim.

Here's a painting that I did several years ago.  I never actually finished it.  Supposed to be a caption - a quote from Mama Louise on Derek:  "That man can make a guitar TALK!"  This, as per a conversation that she had with David W. (Goliath) back in the day.

'The Allman Brothers struggled that first summer. “Money was real tight then,” Gregg told me. “We had about three dollars a day for food, beer, everything. By the time we had some cold drinks, well, you could just about forget it. We were all skinny back then, real skinny. I guess if it hadn’t been for Mama Louise, we might never have made it. Back then, a plate cost $1.25, and I’d dare you to finish it. She never asked us to pay when we didn’t have the money, just put it on our tab, and kept putting it on our tab, and kept putting it on our tab. She called us her boys, and we called her Mama. I’ll love her till the day I die.” '

RIP, Mama Louise.

My maternal great grandmother and my paternal grandmother made the upper level fried chicken.

H and H right there with them.

Feeding folks with love and care is spiritual.

@aiq If you want to start a sho-nuff fight in the deep south ... tell somebody that your mama's fried chicken is better than their mama's!  😉

The segment on Mama Louise in the Please Call Home DVD is special, esPEcially Caroline Aiken's rap about her & the soul food at the H&H -

it's no wonder they dedicated the DVD to her - the world would never have heard of the ABB without her food & friendship

RIP, Mama Louise

RIP. You made a big difference with the ABB.

In 1969 money was tight. $3 a day usually is all they had.

Mama was sure a sweet person !

The H is nothing like it was when Mama was there.  I will likely not eat there again.....

Hated to hear it. Here's my son and I with Mama Louise on a beautiful summer afternoon in 2016. She had just finished some caramel pie. I wouldn't take a king's ransom for this photo!

I made my first pilgrimage to Macon in 2010 and after visiting all of the required sites, I ate at the H&H for the very first time. The food was wonderful, but I also had the privilege of meeting Mama Louise, shaking her hand, and personally thanking her for the major role that she played in the ABB's history. It is one of my most cherished ABB related memories.

RIP Mama Louise. You were an honorary mama to a lot more people than I think you ever realized.
