RIP Jimmy Buffett

While I have always been indifferent to Jimmy Buffett's music (probably due to overexposure - especially after a long experience at a Margaritaville restaurant) - I have always had respect and even admiration for this southern troubadour. His music was infectious to a huge legion of fans (aka Parrotheads) . Several of his songs, especially A Pirate Looks at Forty really touched me:
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
And in your belly, you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast
Never meant to last, never meant to last
I passed out and I rallied and I sprung a few leaks
But I got to stop wishin', got to go fishin'
Down to rock bottom again
Just a few friends, just a few friends
Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day
Still could manage to smile
Just takes a while, just takes a while
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown
I feel like I've drowned, gonna head uptown

Yes I went to one of his sold out shows and batted the beach ball everytime it came by. And I got slapped rather hard by a woman next to me I didn't know.
Everyone was singing with Buffett "Let's Go Get Drunk And S****" and I just happened to look at her and I was smiling as I thought it was a funny period in the show and she smacked me hard enough to make my ear ring for a bit.
I just saw on Entertainment Tonight a few weeks ago that earlier this year Jimmy became the SECOND musician in the history of the world to become a BILLIONAIRE by playing and writing. The other is Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift is closing in to soon become the third.
There are various ways to measure success in the music business. By the money made metric, Jimmy Buffett blows Keith Richards away at just $500 million!

Never been a fan of his music but sad to see another musician from my generation pass on.
RIP Jimmy

Cause of death was a rare form of skin cancer Jimmy discovered he had four years ago.
Usually strikes people over 50 with weak immune system and too much sun over the years.

very sad. his albums until the late 70's were top notch

@matt05 A very cool thing about Jimmy - he didn't really start playing guitar until he was in college. He came up with some catchy lyrics that weren't exactly Dylan-esque, but spoke to that large legion of fans. Just a regular guy with a guitar like so many of us. Maybe it was a matter of being in the right place at the right time? Maybe because those songs were just so relatable? Worth over a $billion! Even secretly donated several airplanes to a museum in Mobile, AL:

RIP Jimmy. Wasn't necessarily a fan of his but he was great friends with Steve Goodman one of my very favorite performers.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Late Eddie Van Halen said Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page was a great producer and sounds great on record.
But everytime Eddie saw Jimmy Page live he was sloppy and played like he had a broken right arm and was two years old!!
Gosh I wonder ever listened to his own soundboards? Take away the two hand tapping BS, and Eddie didn't have much left.
