Thank you Gregg and the Allman Brothers for enriching my life with music that matters. The soundtrack that is played wherever I go.

Even though we all knew this was coming, the finality of it still just sucks. I was a 20 year old kid in 1994 when I saw my first show. It changed everything. Over the next 20 years I saw this great band as often as time ad money would allow. I was lucky enough to see them many times at the Beacon, at the Fox, Red Rocks, Wanee and in Macon. They never once failed to put a huge smile on my face. I always walked out of a show like I was living in the best dream. Gregg was so much of that. It sucked when Butch passed but this is another level. I'm sure the jamming in heaven has been pretty crazy these last few days. RIP Gregg, you will be sorely missed.

Well, damn.

I, like many of you, spent a lot of time listening to Gregg and the Allman Brothers Band over the long holiday weekend.

While I'm sad that we'll never see a reunion, and there won't be a Laid Back Festival on the shores of Lake Michigan, I'm trying my best to remember all the great music, and all the great people I'd have never met without a mutual love and admiration for the best music that ever was.

I'm heartbroken. Even though we suspected the end was near, I still held out hope that there was one more miraculous recovery in him....as unlikely as that was.

Social media has actually helped me since getting this news. Lots of great tributes.

The best thing I read was that Dickey & Gregg had reconnected in multiple conversations recently.

Hello to the extended family. Don't come around as much as I used to but wanted to post regarding Gregg and what he has meant to me.

I was away in upstate NY on vacation with my family when I heard the news. On my way home Sunday I was listening to the Jam On channel with Warren's wife Stephanie hosting and playing the final show at the Beacon. Stephanie was talking about her memories of Gregg, being on the road , tour bus etc in between sets of the show. So with everyone sleeping in the car, it was stories of Gregg, the great music and the open road. I was of course very emotional, but I began to reflect on everything the band has meant to me and what it had brought to my life.

I started thinking about the old days. Thinking about the original website where we only had the guestbook to communicate with each other and I only knew people by their web names. (Stormy, Lamdog, Wharfy, TerriB,Brofan, EddieP, Bird72 sent me my first ABB b+p and so many more)
Staying up super late on weekends and discussing the music, the band and being in a community where we all "got it". The meetups pre show in NYC for the Beacon runs. Small gatherings at the Beacon hotel, Gin Mill and of course YOGI's. Then the Hospitality Sweetie parties which in my mind were EPIC and I thank all of the amazing sisters who put that together every year. Memories to last a life time. The friendships that were created and bonds that were fused together because of this man, this band , this music will be a feeling I will never truly be able to put in words. The countless Wharfstocks in the summer where we would all get back together for the summer NJ shows (Thanks Chuck!) All because we became this band of kindred spirits , where getting together to be with each other became as important to us as going to the shows. The crazy Shenanigans we would get into more so in NYC (Corky....lol) All because of this man, this band and this great music. I am humbled and incredibly lucky to have been part of this community thanks to Gregg Allman.

And I will leave this final statement that I had written on facebook.

In my life, there has never been a more constant source of enjoyment for my soul then this man and this band. The extended family which became such an amazing band of brothers and sisters who are just as important to me , all because of Gregg Allman. The music, the people and the therapeutic vibe we all experienced at the pre shows, the hospitality sweeties parties at the beacon hotel, the countless Wharfstocks and the church that is the Beacon Theatre. The memories, the friendships and the music will last forever. RIP Midnight Rider and thank you for everything.

I was really hoping he'd bounce back one more time, too. Devon once said, "He'll be alright. My dad is a tank."

At WaneeFest this year, I had heard from a friend who heard from a fairly reliable source that Gregg was terminal, and that included the hospice rumor. But when you're a public figure and your demise is imminent, you want to spend your remaining days with those closest to you. Gregg was loved by thousands, if not millions, but he was a human being, and he deserved some dignity in his final days. It sounds like he had that.

My hopes for an ABB reunion show pretty much died with Butch. But like many here have stated, if it weren't for The Allman Brothers Band, I wouldn't have crossed paths with so many wonderful people, including my Road Dawg, John "Bluedad" Howard.

Gregg had a gift that he was born to share. We still have the music, and memories of shows and gatherings of friends and famABBly. "The road goes on forever." God bless Gregg Allman, his family, friends and fans.

Is there a reason that Michael isn't mentioned?

"Gregg is survived by his wife, Shannon Allman, his children, Devon, Elijah Blue, Delilah Island Kurtom and Layla Brooklyn Allman; 3 grandchildren, his niece, Galadrielle Allman, lifelong friend Chank Middleton, and a large extended family. The family will release a statement soon, but for now ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

i'm starting to find a few words for this, not alot, just a few.

it's weird how i feel about gregg's death. didn't hit me at 1st really because it was expected. and the final shows were in 2014. the mourning started awhile back i guess. was talk of a reunion, although that was doubtful. butch took his life, that was sad. this is one of those things that just kinda dwells on your mind.....doesn't hit you all at once. man

My heart is broken. Those two brothers front and center. I've lost a fundamental part of who I am this year as I'm sure you all have.

This was definitely a tough one. My condolences to Gregg's family and friends. The last few days gets one to think about the good times and I remembered a great Gregg story I thought I'd share.

It was the time I met Gregg backstage for a few minutes back in 1994 and it couldn't have been cooler.

It was after the computer company Gateway 2000's annual Christmas party. I guess at the time, when you're one of the biggest computer companies, you can afford to hire the Allman Brothers for a party, and that they did. And at the time, it was one of the band's only Iowa appearances, so Hitting the Note, the groovy people they are, gave all Iowa and Kneebraska fan club members passes to the show as well as back stage passes! Coot, I don't think I ever asked you, but we're you there?

Anyway, the crowd was more suits than tie dye. But I managed to get up front in the general admission show. Right before it started, Red Dog came out and threw ear plugs out to the first few rows. Of course, in my youthful ignorance, I declined ear protection. I remember the show being super LOUD! Anyway, during the show, Dickey threw a pre-autographed Eat A Peach shirt right to me. It has since turned into my prized possession.

After the show, I was backstage with ears crazy ringing from the show...I was able to meet Warren, Woody and Jaimoe and they gave their autographs next to Dickey's on the shirt. Very cool.

Then Gregg walked in. Of course, people gravitated towards him. But I was lucky enough to get to spend a few minutes with him and he couldn't have been nicer. I asked for his autograph on my new shirt and he looked it over and asked who he could make it out to. I was semi-floored as I was only expecting his name but he wanted to personalize it for me. How cool!

So, with me a little nervous and my ears ringing, I said make it out to Chad. And since I figured I mumbled the hell out of my name, I even went ahead and spelled it: C.h.a.d.

Gregg looked up from the shirt and looked at me and asked: "How else would you spell it?"

Absolutely too cool. That shirt is framed and hanging in my music room as the centerpiece with Gregg's autograph front and center with the whole shirt made out to me.

Thanks Gregg for your gifts and giving me a lifetime of enjoyment. You will be missed.

I'm pretty sure you are right about the jammin', I think:
Dru Lumbar (from Grinder Switch) was doing vocals as well as guitar
up there with Duane - Guitars
Dangerous Dan, Guitars
Berry - Bass AND Allen Woody Bass ; two bass players in one band? Well that's never been done before, but ABB was always innovative weren't they? ABB created the dual lead guitar sound and I doubt it stopped there.
Keyboards - not on a B3, but Taz DiGregorio on Piano
Drums - Butch

Others sitting in: Steve Gaines, Austin Pettit
Background Vocals: Cassie Gaines
Janis might even visit if they could get her away from Jerry Garcia who would have her with his group.

While we can think that Duane, Berry, Butch and now Gregg are up there, we still have a lot of people from ABB here:

Dickey - Guitar
Oteil - Bass
Jaimoe - Drums
Marc- Percussion

and all the others who have played with the band over the years including Chuck Leavell, Jack Pearson, Warren Haynes etc. etc.

There's a band up there, and there could be a band down here too that honors the legacy and continues the music. Yeah it would be different, but what else should the surviving band members do? They are musicians, they need to play....

Good to see people like Sandman and EddieP and nycpeachhead back here. I put my thoughts elsewhere, but it's a sad time even though it wasn't hard to know this was coming. Gregg experienced a ton of pain and lived about the longest 69 years anybody did, and with all of that he gave us so much through the music he made and the connections we made through it. I'm sorry for his family and bandmates because a lot of them have suffered a lot of losses lately, and I'm sorry that Michael Allman wasn't acknowledged in the official statement and some of the press reports, but I'm grateful he gave us so much.

A day of reflection:

This afternoon I am working a bit outside. It is a beautiful, sun-filled day. One of few we’ve had on Long Island in recent weeks. Eat A Peach fills the air and is carried off gently by the soft breeze. I’m trimming the spent blooms from an unusually robust turn out on the rhododendron in my front yard. As I trim the wilted petals, the sweet smell of the nearby peony just approaching its peak fills my nose. It is a reminder that in a moment of sadness and loss, there is hope. One bloom ends as another opens—such is the circle of life.

I hate that sappy saying about better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all; but damn it, it sure sums up my love affair with the ABB. I am heartbroken losing it, but so very thankful for the joyride. I will always hold dear the special moments we have shared over the years during so many epic musical adventures. I am a far better person for having shared quality time with the peach family immersed in the music of the best damn band in the land. I cannot imagine a life without it.

I wish healing for all that mourn the loss of Gregg and everything this day represents. Gregg’s physical journey ends in peace and his soul can rest easy now in the presence of his greatest loves.

You know someone didn't do their homework when their headline states "Ramblin Man Gregg Allman".
