While their catalog wasn't exactly what you'd call prolific, Iron Butterfly sold a ... $hitload of recordings of a single song!  So much has been written about the singer consuming several bottles of wine before attempting a vocal that was supposed to be, "in the garden of eden".  "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" was a 17 minute behemoth that provided schoolboys with a drum solo (that was not "Wipeout") to pound on those tiny desk tops - much to the delight of my 5th grade teacher!  As one-hit-wonders go, this was monumental on a certain level.

Unrelated/related? - heard a story on NPR years ago about one of the members of Iron Butterfly who was (accordingly) some sort of defense-tech expert and basically disappeared after leaving phone messages stating, "they're coming to get me".  Like the song wasn't strange enough.  Hmm.

RIP. That was a classic from a band often known for just that song.

absolutely - cant think of another OHWonder that was 17 min!

the drum solo is included in the movie Joe - that’s how it sounds to me anyway

RIP bro, you & Iron Butterfly will live forever b/c of In A Gadda Da Vida

I had  a 7th grade music class where Monday thru Thursday we would learn how to read and play music. Friday, the teacher would let us bring in and listen to our music. I remember turning on my classmates to Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf. And being introduced to Grand Funk, Guess Who and others.

RIP Doug Ingle  Thank you for the memories
