Warren has issued a statement.

After all the devastating losses of 2016 I can’t believe it. I’m still in shock. I am truly honored to have played music and shared life with Butch for over 25 years. He was one of a kind-as a drummer and as a human being. Butch was part of what is unfortunately now a dying breed of musicians who served with honor like soldiers. He put 110% of his self into every song he played. He was the Lou Gehrig of rock drummers. I’ve seen him play many times when he was injured or sick and most people would have bailed or phoned it in. Not Butch. He would play with the utmost intensity till he was about to fall over with no regrets. He was very proud of the fact that up until our last shows in 2014 he was the only member of the band who had never missed a show. His mission in life was to serve the music. And serve the music he did. Butch considered the Allman Brothers Band music to be reverent and each performance to be of the highest level of importance and he drove that “freight train” like no other could. We miss you Butchie.”

This world, as you all know, is a very random place. Peace and Condolences to the entire Trucks family. I probably saw Butch play close to 100 times. As was mentioned by Warren, he never mailed it in. Hell, he couldn't. His sound was too important to the band. And yes, he was the only one that reached out to fans. I always that was very cool of him. He didn't have to do it.
I miss you already, Butch.

If I may share a short story on the only time I actually met Butch. It was at the legendary Bayou, in Georgetown(DC). Frogwings played a show there. It was off the charts. There was a very small crowd, but lively. After the set the band headed off the Green Room. I was standing if front of the entrance. I put out my hand and said "Great set, Butch". He was so excited and full of piss and vinegar, as only Butch could. He put his hand out and said "Thanks very much, Man". All smiles, the band was patting one another on the shoulders. It was so cool to see him so excited about the gig and his little side project, Frogwings. That band was killer and Butch was the driving force.

Met him twice; first at UGA in the early 70's backstage at an ABB concert and in ''74 at the Georgia Theater with "Trucks". Nice guy, very genuine. He gave my younger brother and friend backstage passes at an ABB show in Kalamazoo. I first met my future wife after hearing "HotLanta" wafting out from her apartment. All good memories. Beacon Theater twice, second time with my daughters also, ABB fans all.

They have been a big part of my life since I first heard Revivial as a freshman at UGA. They can't be replaced but a great stereo can bring them back into your heart every time you hear them play!

Thanks, Butch for all the memories. Vaya con Dios!

Nice statement from the Black Crowes Steve Gorman.

Steve Gorman, drummer for next-generation southern rockers The Black Crowes, also had a few words to say. “Butch did everything just right," Gorman tells Billboard. "Never over or under played, never pushed or pulled too much. Butch always served the music first, while somehow still managing to impose his own will and his own driving style into everything he played."

“At the center of all the swirling magic of The Allman Brothers, Butch Trucks was the eye of the storm, leading from the back seat in the exact manner to which we should all aspire," Gorman continues. "I have taken as much from Butch’s bag as I have any other drummer. It always sounds so trite when trying to put thoughts like these into words. Butch Trucks' drumming is of course much better served being felt and heard, so we should probably all shut up put on some ABB. Rest in Peace, sir.”

Trey Anastasio:

"I was so sad to hear of the passing of Butch Trucks. He was an incredible drummer and a really kind person. For me, Butch's voice was as integral a part of the Allman Brother's sound as Gregg's, Duane's, or any of the other great musicians that played over the years. He had a unique way of leaning hard into the bell of the cymbal and his own identifiable attack on the snare. He had an angular aggressive lope that was really unique. No one sounded like him. I've always been a firm believer in the huge impact that the drummer has on any great band, and that was certainly true in the case of Butch and the Allman's. Rest In Peace, Butch. Thank you for your gift." - Trey

I am so shattered by this. I always thought that Butch was the one who propelled those solos. The nights he really locked in were always my favorite nights. So glad I got into them early enough to see him drum for 100's of hours.

Alan's piece was appropriately reverential. Had my eyes pooling.

Sincere condolences to family and fans.

Kicking back listening to lots of Brothers music...listening to the integral way Butch's drumming provided just the right textures for all that was swirling around...such a loss.......cuts deep..

Somebody mentioned Frogwings, and I want to offer a special "Thank You" to Butch for that band.

I doubt anybody ever made a dime off Frogwings, and I believe the motivation for it was very pure. Just the good old fashioned musician's impulse to get some of your friends together and jam. Lucky for us, Butch's friends were some of the very best musicians on Planet Earth. That little "side project" was an amazing band, and their music has given me so much joy over the years. Butch's many eulogies will focus on his work with the ABB, and they should. But I just want to take a moment to recognize that little side project, something that was done out of a pure place and created a lot of incredible music.

Butch didn't have to start Frogwings. The ABB was packing big sheds and arenas in the 90s and Butch didn't need the money. He could have just done his main gig with the Allmans and chilled out in Florida when he wasn't on tour. But he had enough fire in the belly to start something that wasn't just "let's go see the ABB drummer with his solo band," it was an absolute force of nature. At their best, they were as good as it gets, at least to me and the 50 other people in tiny clubs having their minds blown.

So thanks for Frogwings, Butch. I really, really appreciate it. Rest In Peace.

Butch Trucks literally altered the course of my life in 1997 when he brought me into the Allman Brothers Band. I have no words to describe how I feel right now.
As far as I know there are only two double drumming pairs in rock & roll that have played together for over 45 years. One of them is no more. I'm honored to have played the last shows with Butch and Jaimoe together. He left it all in the ring. Rest in peace my brother.

Butch was in my sister's guild in the Everquest game.

He commented on a corkball thread here a while back:
https://allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&file=viewthread&tid=735

He hit me up for some info from that article and we shared a couple of emails.

He stayed true to the political game as some turned starting in the eighties. Props for that particularly now a days...

I wish he did not comment so much on DB but such is life.

A great drummer with Jaimoe and Mark and solo.

RIP,

That was a great band. Too bad it didn't last longer than it did. I never got to see them live, but do greatly enjoy their one album.
