Ringo and Allstarrs Cancel Tour ... AGAIN!!!

I still have my paper tickets for the original date - June 2020. That show was postponed to 2021 ... then, to June 2022. With two members of the band testing positive for Covid, the show is now being moved to September. I just hope that my tickets don't biodegrade/decompose before the show happens. Healing and healthy wishes to Ringo and all of the Allstarrs. Covid ain't over, folks.
Peace and Love,

COVID or no COVID, Ringo can't sing and never could

@robslob Hopefully Ringo will let someone do most of the singing. I guess Ringo was okay on Act Naturally.
I've heard Ringo say he doesn't get the praise as a rock drummer he should and he said if you listen carefully to him on those Beatles records you will see what a great rock drummer he is.
Of course nobody I can think of would dare say the Beatles are the not the most popular and successful rock and roll band in music history!!!
Anyone think another band was more popular and successful than the Beatles?

First of all, this wasn't intended as an opportunity to slam Ringo Starr.
I don't think Ringo or the rest of the Beatles ever even suggested that he was a "great" singer. I think his voice lent itself well to several tunes. "Don't Pass Me By", "Octopus's Garden", "Yellow Submarine" - and even the cover of Buck Owens', "Act Naturally" - I just can't imagine how these songs would've sounded with the "proper" singing of either Paul, John or George. His vocals were always somewhat on the side of whimsy. Personally, I loved his singing! If you are keeping score notice that Paul's vocal range isn't what it use to be either. I'm a mere lad of 65 (in a couple of weeks) and I KNOW I ain't what I use to be ... at anything! Ringo either gets slammed or praised for his drumming abilities - which fit the songs of the Fab Four to a tee! Most of the PRAISE comes from seasoned and experienced drummers. The slams usually from people who don't know a drumstick from a chicken leg.
The Allstarrs shows were/are a lot of fun! Yeah, Ringo's in his early-mid 80s. The fact that he is even up there at all should be a treat to all the fans of the Beatles. Ringo gets lots of breaks in these shows when his cast of players take turns at their own hits. I've been to a couple of these shows and they are just huge fun!
I was initially whining a little at the run of bad luck in getting this tour - which was originally scheduled for two years ago - on the road. My concerns now are with Ringo and the afflicted band members (Edgar Winter and Steve Lukather) - especially Edgar - himself no spring chicken.
Hopefully, these shows happen in September - the latest reschedule date for this tour.
More peace!

@rusty: I saw Ringo and his band just once, must have been 1997. And WHAT a band: Gary Brooker (Procol Harum) keyboards, Jack Bruce bass, Peter Frampton guitar. All three of them were splendid and they all were given TWO songs each. Sorry, Ringo coming out from behind the drums and singing at center stage was NAUSEATING. And that was the bulk of the show. Hey, I'm entitled to my opinion too..........
Oh and by the way......the ONLY Beatles tunes they did were ones that Ringo sang. Not exactly cream of the crop Beatles material. Throw in "No No No No, I don't (SNIFF) no more"........UGH.......

have to agree to disagree. ringo's singing on "photograph" is brilliant and when you have a lot of people that have come through your life that all you've got left are the photographs its even more touching

In my humblest of opinions, "Photograph" is up there with anything Lennon/McCartney ever wrote. "I want you here to have and hold as the years go by and we grow old and gray..." That's reaching deep into the aortic valve. George's outstanding background harmony vocal really helps to sell the song. This is one of my favorite songs by anybody!

Part of the ... allure of the Allstarrs show is getting to see these amazing performers - many of whom just don't tour or play live anymore. You saw Jack Bruce! You oughtta be thanking your lucky ...STARRs for that (I could NOT resist the pun!)
I've always been a big Todd Rundgren fan. At his shows, he typically shuns his "hits" for more recent material that is not always as accessible. I have friend who went to one of his shows and said Todd was visibly upset when fans yelled out requests for the songs that made him popular. When he played as an Allstarr, the fans got to hear "Hello, It's Me" and "I Saw the Light" (a couple of others, too).
FYI - Ringo's covering of that Hoyt Axton gem ("No No Song") never fails to bing a smile to my face! 😉

You didn't mention Ringo's vocals on Boys. I always liked that too.
I love Ringo's drumming (yes, I'm a drummer). He may not have had the technical chops of Bonham, but he is was extremely musical, and also fit the song. In My Life, Come Together, Tomorrow Never Knows, Day Tripper, are just a few examples of his musicality behind the kit. Those licks are easy to copy, but Ringo is the one who came up with them.
And he did have chops, he just didn't show them off. Listen to the ride cymbal on I Feel Fine or I Wanna Be Your Man.
On a related note, I saw Paul at Fenway last week. He still puts on a great show, but at 79 his voice is fading a bit, as expected. Still, I have to give him credit - he played for 2.5 hours, and I'm pretty sure he kept everything in the original key, unlike other older guys who take things to a lower key. On some tunes, he was able to blend in with the back up singers, but he put himself right out there with I've Just Seen a Face, Blackbird, Let it Be, and Hey Jude. A legend. I'm so glad I got to see him one more time (first time in the late 80s)

@stormyrider Ringo's drumming on "I Wanna Be Your Man" is almost deceptively complex. He seems to have technique that is all his own!
Regarding the reemergence of Covid - read yesterday that the Stones are cancelling shows because Mick has Covid.
Yeah, McCartney still plays an outstanding show. I'm glad that I saw him several times (6, I think) over the years.

@rusty I've seen him solo and with Wings and it's always a tight, clean and professional show. No clams!!
Paul apparently is the most successful musician, song writer and singer in history!!!!!
Paul, as far as I know, is the only musician who is worth more than ONE BILLION DOLLARS.
Ringo rocking on the drums!!!

I never knew Ringo was in The Wings.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

@robertdee: Thanks SO much for taking me back to The Ed Sullivan Show, 1964. I'm 67 so I remember it SO vividly. You just knew that something very, very special was going on. In that era a LOT of artists were lyp-synching on TV. But The Beatles were so ALIVE and so REAL. They sound deceptively simple but once you really start to listen, the nuances in the music both instrumentally and vocally are just brilliant. And yeah I dogged Ringo's singing in this thread, but I happen to think he's one of the greatest rock drummers of all-time. The Beatles' overall catalogue is really astonishing and they couldn't have achieved that without a great drummer.

@robslob Yes indeed! The songs they wrote have great melody lines and way cool hooks and without question what Ringo lays down on the drums drives it right in the pocket!!
The Beatles came up with one great catchy song after another for most of the 60's. Just incredible.
Here is one in color.

I was almost in tears when that happened
we need more video footage of Duane
