For those of you who do not know Redd, he was a member of the "Strangers", Merle Haggard's band. Some locals, and not so locals, call him the "King of Twang". He plays a 3:00 matinee most every Saturday at the legendary Continental Club, in Austin. This was our, my wife and me, second trip to Austin and the one item we agreed on was Redd's matinee. He did not disappoint. People, and mostly very in tune music people, waited in line, in the rain. Lots of chatter about Redd, music and other under the radar places and bands to see in Austin. This is a small club, they crammed 200 to 250(maybe more) for an afternoon show. At least one third of the crowd is two steppin' the entire gig. Really adds a cool dimension to the club. Waiters and waitresses were all hopping. His band is a bunch of 20 somethings that swing...hard! So...after a stellar set of Willie, Merle, Bob Wills he ends the set with Jessica. The place became unhinged. Austin has changed a lot over the last two decades. This place and this man seem to make time stand still. Gotta check it out if you're in Austin.
