R.I.P my wonderful dad.

This morning at 5 a.m my wonderful dad slipped peacefully away aged 74, at home with my mum and myself at his bedside. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's a little over 10 years ago, and dementia just over 5 years ago.
He still had all his faculties and could still hold a conversation with you and also have a laugh and joke. He never let either illness get in his way. And it was only in the last 12 months after several falls, a trait of the Parkinson's, that knocked his confidence, so much so he would only go out if my mum was with him. I also had a few memorable trips out in my car with him in the last 4 months, driving him round places he once lived, or worked, and places of interest to him in and around Widnes.
He loved Westerns, War films and documentaries about anything War related. He had lost his own dad in Feb 1945 whilst fighting the Japanese in Burma. One regret he had was never getting to visit his War Grave, although we did trace the cemetery, and we're able to purchase a photo of his headstone.
He taught me everything about D.I.Y that I would ever need to know, which has saved me a small fortune over the years, and always drummed into myself and younger brother and sister, to work hard, never lie, and never steal. All of which we have adhered to.
He will be sadly missed, but never, ever forgotten by all those that knew him. See you again one day dad.

Sorry for your loss, Peach-head. I feel ya. Next month will be a year since I lost my pops. 🙁

I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who posted a reply and to all those that read my post. Your kind words have meant so much to me. These last 6 days have been the worst of my life, thankfully we have a very close family unit and we have all been there for one another. I'll miss my dad everyday for the rest of my life and know that someday, somewhere I will see him again.

Sorry for your loss

My condolences peach-head. Your father sounds like he was a heck of a dad and a good man. I'm sure he's created a great legacy.
Thank you also for mentioning your grandfather. WWII is one of my passions. The fighting in the Burma theater was brutal and the living conditions were very trying. Bless your grandfather along with all who served there.

Sorry for your loss mate. Not much worse happens in our lives than losing a parent.

I am so sorry for your loss but he is still and will always be in your heart

Please accept my sympathies and condolences. You and your Dad obviously shared a wonderful love. Peace to you and your family.
