I really enjoyed TTB last night.
My question:
During Derek's long, soft intro to Midnight in Harlem it sounded like there was a single East Indian drone accompanying his lead. Was that Derek as well using a special guitar technique or was that Kofi with a sound effect or even the bass player?
I was lucky enough to be quite close but could not see Derek doing anything but the lead.
Thanks in advance as I am a huge Indian music lover and am intrigued by this question

Maybe Derek 'droning" his Low E, I remember reading somewhere he was talking about practicing his slide lines and since he is in open E he can drone his low E and practice slide over it, very useful for when only an acoustic guitar is available. You can play some pretty cool Derek sounding Eastern lines playing the major scale notes on only the high E string while droning your low E.

Edit: Drone is Tim L. on LMGB album.

Good question - plus, there is a sarod sound at the beginning of Within You, Without You that is not Derek.

Bass Guitar, Drone [Swamp Raga], Recorded By [Field, Swamp Raga] – Tim Lefebvre
Tim gets the credit on Let Me Get By album, probably him live as well.
Thought it was Kofi all this time....
