I was lucky enough to have seen the Detroit (Pine Knob) show in August 2005 when Warren was off of the tour with "family things", and Jack was filling in. The show was amazing, not because Warren was gone, but because Jack and Derek went crazy that night. It was also the first time I saw Ron Holloway playing sax with the ABB, which is an extreme pleasure.
About a year later, I bought the Instant Live CDs of the Chicago show from the night before. It is equally good, if not better. (I'm a big John Lee Hooker fan, and they played "Dimples".) Jack's solo on "Franklin's Tower" may be the most awesome thing I've ever heard.
Anyway, I'd like to hear the other shows from that week. (Morton, MN; Toronto, Ont.; and London, Ont.) Were those shows ever available from Instant Live? They are not listed at all on the HTN merch site. I know that in 2003 and 2004, not all shows were recorded by Instant Live. Was that still the situation in 2005?
Separately, what are other people's thoughts on the best Jack solo available on Instant Live or MunckMix recordings?
The Jack/Derek combo is something special, they really blend nicely. Jack is just such a smooth player- that "Mountain Jam" is nuts. I have the MI show and spin it pretty often. If memory serves, the Chicago and MI shows are the only Jack/Derek shows available via Instant Live (the Chicago show has been out of print for some time I think), but I sure someone out there has a decent recording. I think the Live CD's were still up to the venue and not the band. As far as Jack Pearson moments go, his take on "Dreams" from the 2004 Fox run is probably tops for me. He absolutely destroys that song.
There is also a Warren/Jack show from Wanee a few years ago (2007 maybe, I think Derek was on tour with Clapton) - likely worth checking out.
The wife and I were at the Toronto and London shows , Chuck played with the Brothers for some of the Toronto show since he was there rehearsing with the Stones , what a great night at a fun venue .
I went to Scranton and got treated to the "Blues Hour" with Warren, Derek and Jack all on stage at once.
Yeah, we got that Instant Live.
Instant Live did not make the trip to Canada for the shows you are looking for.
Apparently the whole visa/customs thing was too much of a hassle for just 3 shows, if I remember correctly. There may be audience recordings out there, I'm sure there are, but those shows were not professionally recorded by Instant Live or anyone else.
9/24/04 is another good show to add to your list of shows where Jack Pearson sits in. Great Dreams and Mountain Jam with Jack on that one.
I think I have both these shows , Toronto for sure , I will start a vine this weekend .
