There are so many great TTB performances of Midnight In Harlem but for me this one from Mountain Jam 2014 is in a class by itself. One of Derek's best moments IMHO. Love the view this guy captured too, the bubbles in the breeze seem to influence the mood of the band.

I agree on fanfrom-71. I'm not sure I've ever heard that one from Crossroads topped. The drummers really pick up the intensity more than on other versions (it was a different drumming duo as JJ Johnson was out for that performance).

I first saw it performed in the movie theatre when Crossroads was shown in theatres and it was very powerful to hear it in that sound system and see it on the big screen.

I wish the band had just put that version on Revelator!

The Crossroads festival version is a great performance and definitely one of my all time favorites as that youtube is the very first time I heard/saw the Tedeschi Trucks Band and was instantly hooked. Unbelievable song, band, vocals and I thought (still think) it is one of Derek's best solos. For a long time I didn't think it could be topped. Then I saw the youtube posted above from Mountain Jam 2014, that specific youtube (the bubbles in the breeze tell a lot of the story.) For me, Mountain Jam 2014 is the best I have heard/seen so far. But the Crossroads is close and will always be one of my favorites.

Here is a radio broadcast from the North Sea Jazz Festival 2011-07-09 which is another great version. The recording is studio quality and whoever mixed this deserves a medal. I like the way the horns and Otiel are mixed in here, particularly during Derek's solo, better than Revelator. NO slight to Revelator or their mix Smile just a really nice mix here. Great version: Little Martha tease during the intro. Not Derek's Very Best solo but a great recording, a great mix and certainly a great performance:

These were definitely the best performances the TTB did of M.I.H. on these respective nights!

I really think the Clapton Crossroads performance in Chicago is Great with all the nuances. It was the last Crossroad Chicago performance W/ a lot of Legends there. I'm also partial to Oteil playing bass with them there & I thought it just seemed really spontaneous with Oteil 'challenging' Derek there especially. I think it was early on in their (TTB) performances & I also liked the interviews & Jeff Beck's bass player there & think they had a great time interacting with all the other greats there (I personally thought Susans band grew up a little after that (my opinion only & could be totally off track, but I enjoyed it all). I also found it a little Raw and unrehearsed for the time back then & felt their anticipation & excitement & I actually felt nervous for them too.I thought Oteil & Derek were having fun & a Great time playing opposite each other & really enjoyed seeing that!

How about the man who wrote this masterpiece?

Really like Mike Mattison's version a lot:

Here is another Radio Broadcast (i.e. fantastic recording) from "The Hart Theater at the Egg" (where?) 2011-10-19.

A shorter take but an excellent performance. Everyone is perfectly on point here. Derek's solo is perfectly constructed, a nice quite flow to begin, nice build, bright climax and a smooth end. The Only flaw here is that Derek's solo isn't longer:

I’m kinda partial to this one,

As it was me who recorded it. It is not best of quality and Derek seems to drift off the stage at one point, but it was just the angle we were at. This was almost a full year before Revelator was released, so with the exception of the few covers they did that night most had not heard this stuff before. Oteil playing bass was a surprise for me at the time. Anyway the song has certainly evolved since 2010

I remember this night well it was our 21st wedding anniversary, didn’t have a band at our wedding, but ……..this made up for it. It was a fantastic show. I wasn’t really sure at the time how it would be as I was still pretty disappointed that the Derek Trucks Band had packed it in, but I quickly found a new favorite.

Had the pleasure of meeting both Susan & Derek after the show. Two very gracious people, they signed the set list I was able to get from the sound board and had a nice chat about music, the festival and our city. It seemed that they had no trouble making the time to connect with a fan. That was the first time we had seen them and this summer made five and they just keep getting better and better.

end of thread. Susan absolutely dominates this version, and puts a little extra on it.

Very nice!! Love the fact that there is a sax solo before Derek's solo!

GREAT solo by Derek too. Susan on point. Great version all around and extra-interesting with the sax solo.

VERY nice solo from Derek here.

Well constructed and much more melodic than most Derek solos.

This is one of his best "Duane" solos I have heard. NOT to say he is mimicking Duane and using a lot of his riffs. He's not, but he is telling and very precise and melodic story which is one of my favorite parts of Duane's playing. He is also playing slide in an E tuning which doesn't hurt but this is completely Derek in the zone.

Full disclaimer: there are not a lot of "blizzard riffs" in this one. They are not missed. Some nice energetic buildups to be sure but it is the melody that makes this a treat.

PS: The Bitches Brew-esk begining is pretty nice too.
