Amped on this: Porgy and Bess from the Met, coming up Feb 1, 5, 8 - by Fathom Events, maybe at a theater near you. Angel Blue is supposed to be a knockout Bess.

Saw this in the fall. Great new production. Eric Owens is no slouch, either. Denyce Graves is back at the Met for a rare appearance.

For those who say opera isn't for me, this is as close to musical theatre as it gets. It's Gershwin & sung in English. Seeing it for $20 at the movies gives you a window on how fabulous it is live w/o paying $200.

You can also buy it at the metopera.org site that has info & video clips about the opera.

Gershwin! Janis Joplin sang Gershwin's "Summertime" - - the number that kicks off Porgy and Bess. Unless you've been living under a classic rock all your life, you have been hearing Gershwin influences in most blues and jazz derived music (rock). He was an American music titan.
