A friend of mine turned me on to a 70s prog band called PFM, and I've been enjoying their music quite a bit. I would say they remind me of Kansas - not as aggressive as King Crimson, not as busy as Gentle Giant. Maybe a little like late 1970s Genesis.
They offer long instrumental passages that are very melodic. When they sing, sometimes it is in Italian, sometimes it is in English.
This is a really nicely recorded and filmed show of theirs from a prog fest in 2010:
