Peter Green's Mac

I'm sitting here drinking some good bourbon listening to the Boston Tea Party and thought it's about time for the occasional Peter Green appreciation thread.
Dude was AMAZING in this era. My formative guitar hero was Clapton but I have to say that when I listen to this old Mac I can't help but get blown away by Green. Just incredible.
And it's not just him. They played great great blues music as a whole band.
Just a wonderful snapshot in time. Too bad they're kind of lost of that time.

YES. I found the 3-CD Tea Party years back, a prize possession.
I love the "Need Your Love So Bad" on Shrine '69 also.

This is the Fleetwood Mac I enjoy the most.. never knew there was a 3 cd Boston Tea Party . I have 2 single dics, would love to find the 3rd cd

What kind of bourbon?

There is a very active Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac group on facebook. There is lots of discussion, shared photos, shared memories, links to forgotten recordings on youtube. You may be interested to join....Then Play On ... Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

I love Mac with Green also. Have all the F Mac up to and including Klin House. The Green days of Mac were by far the best and will always be. My friends who are younger than I can understand that the band started as a blues band. BTW I had a little trouble fine disc 2 of the Tea Party. I bet eBay will have it or a used record store.

Boston Tea Party is like the ABB@Fillmore East of Fleetwood Mac. It is however much longer. They certainly were one of the best bands back then. I refer to them as "The English Allman Brothers".

The Boston Tea Party releases are gems.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

The reissue from 2013 (apparently) is a major upgrade sound wise compared to various previous releases. It's a triple CD set in a round box which a few months later was replaced by a normal sized cardboard box and it was also released on 3 2LP sets. But those vinyl releases were much more expensive.

The Blue Horizon Box Set is a great listen as well.
I can't stand the "popular" version of Fleetwood Mac, although Buckingham has a distinctive picking style.

So for those of us who are only familiar with the "popular" Stevie Nicks version of Mac and not at all impressed with that version...what is a good introduction to the Peter Green era of Mac? Is there a good first album or compilation for getting one's feet wet?

"Albatross" is one of those, stop everything you are doing until it's over songs.

The Very Best of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac is a good 20-track single CD compilation. Curiously, it includes Chicken Shack's I'd Rather Go Blind, for the Christine Perfect/ McVie connection, presumably.
The Boston live discs mentioned above are good.

Fleetwood Mac At The BBC offers a great sample of the Peter Green era.

Agreed. That's where I'd start.

I love Albatross. It sounds like you're on some secluded beach on a south sea island. I like the versions better where Jeremy Spencer answers Peters guitar while Jeremy plays slide on a Stratocaster. I don't know why sometimes they would play the song without that important part.

It's a masterpiece!

"Then Play On" is a great album. I don't think it has much straight ahead basic blues on it though.

Yeah, the call and answer totally adds to the atmosphere. I had to include that when I arranged an acoustic cover of "Albatross" https://soundcloud.com/brettbob/albatross

That was a nice take on "Albatross". It has a "western" kind of sound to it.
