Peter Frampton & Gregg Allman Announce Co-Headline Outing
Gregg Allman’s Laid Back Festival stop in Chicago won’t be the only place to catch Allman and Peter Frampton sharing a bill this summer. The former Allman Brothers Band frontman and the English rock musician have signed on for a run of July co-headline dates.
After wrapping his acoustic RAW tour over the weekend, Frampton returns to the road with his band in May. He tells fans, “We will be all electric and plan to rock your arse!! That’s UK speak for ‘butt’ or, ‘ass’!†Along with his own headline dates, Frampton has a bunch of shows lined up with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Allman has three dozen dates booked between April and September, including U.S. headline shows, his Laid Back Festival gigs and other festival commitments.
The July 16 Laid Back Fest at Chicago’s FirstMerit Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island features sets from Allman, Frampton, Blackberry Smoke, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Lil’ Ed & the Blues Imperials, Eddy Clearwater, Roomful of Blues, and Rick Estrin & the Nightcats.
A few days later Frampton and Allman take the stage in Cincinnati. Here’s the brief co-bill routing:
July 19 – Cincinnati, Ohio, PNC Pavilion At Riverbend
July 20 – Indianapolis, Ind., Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn At White River State Park
July 22 – Raleigh, N.C., Red Hat Amphitheater
July 26 – Charlotte, N.C., Metro Credit Union Amphitheatre
“I’ve been a huge Greg Allman fan since first hearing the Brothers Live Fillmore album. So this is going be a dream tour. I’ve had the honor of sitting in with The Allmans at their Beacon shows a couple of times and it just doesn’t get better than that,†Frampton said.
Presale tickets for select dates are available. Tickets go on sale to the general public April 1. Visit Frampton.com and GreggAllman.com for more information.

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

The Chicago show was supposed to be ZZ Top, not Frampton. I think it's an odd combo but I like it. And my wife would rather see Frampton. This should be a really good tour.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

TWO shows in NC. Hope I'm still here then....

I'm going to be in Charlotte for the TTB/Los Lobos/NMA show, strongly considered this show, but am going to pass.

Forgot about that show. Hope I'm still around for that one, too.

Since it is co-headline, will they rotate who goes on first and will the setlist be shorter ?

Saw Frampton with the ABB at the Beacon a couple of times and in addition to his being a great guitar player, the guy just exudes class and humility. In '07 he was leaving the stage and came back to the mike to say that playing with the ABB was a dream of his and one of the highlights of his career. And he meant it - the guy was just glowing. You could literally feel his sincerity.
And this was a guy that once sold more double LPs than anyone in history and at one point was arguably the biggest rock star in the world.
He really earned my respect that night.

Frampton also had Warren Haynes play on one of his albums. Fingerprints?
There was a Tommy Bolin tribute album a few years back that Warren and I think Derek played on, and Frampton was on that too.
He digs them Brers!!!

Co-headlines usually have the exact same setlist times, but a lot of times they will rotate who goes on first.

I'm pretty sure Gregg is the closer. It is billed as "Laid Back Festival featuring Gregg Allman". Nobody else's name is on the Chicago tickets I have and besides Frampton there are some other good names on the schedule too.
Really looking forward to this. Never seen Frampton before. I can't believe it is only $30 in Chicago.

Thanks. I was not sure if they both would cut back on their sets or not. The way its worded it seemed like Gregg would open.

Likewise, Joel. It has been a very long time....

David Bowie speaks real highly of Frampton in an interview I have around somewhere, saying what a great blues guitarist he is and how he'd (Bowie) love to see him really become a blues player 1st & 4most -- have also really come to respect him in later years, his sit ins w/the Allmans show what a good player he is -- his blues playing is the real shit

The way I keep seeing this billed ,it seems to be more of Frampton as the headliner/closer, so I assume Gregg will open all shows except for the Laid Back ones.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Frampton was depressed after Sgt. Pepper's and the comedown from Live and basically quit playing. And Bowie hired him as his tour guitarist to get him back out there. This thread inspired me to dig up this old interview I did with him.

Nice little interview, Alan ( I'm sure there was more! )
Frampton has always impressed me with his humility and sense of humor and your piece demonstrated that perfectly.
Wish him all the best and hope to catch him in Chicago

Awesome show yesterday in Chicago. It was so undersold they moved our tickets up front. I was watching the girl at the box office and she had stacks of tickets to give out. Kind of a bummer.
Anyway, Blackberry Smoke was great and Frampton was amazing. If you get the chance to see any of these incarnations of the tour, GO!
