Paul Butterfield

Okay going out on Friday to pamper myself. I am going for one purpose.to get some Paul Butterfield. So if any of you (I know you can) give advice please do> Look I have enjoyed his music for years but now I want to update my collection. So where do start? Any comments about being behind the times will be taken in jest and thoroughly enjoyed! Thanks!!

If you are looking on CD, here is your one stop shop. 14 CD's for $50.
If you are just looking for a best of, here is the best option.
And here is an in between option with just the first 5 albums.

I had nothing until about 5 years ago and I figured it was about time, just like you. I picked up "The Paul Butterfield Blues Band" and "East West". I was completely blown away.
Why? I live in a big time blues hot spot, the Bay area. And once I played those two discs, it occurred to me that about half of the cover tunes I had been hearing in Bay area clubs for the prior 25 years had come from those two records!!
It was a big reality check regarding how massively influential The Paul Butterfield Blues Band really was.

You might like this story. As a transplanted Chicagoan, I am struck by his immense influence on the Chicago blues scene.

You probably know of these guys but if you haven't heard of them, check out Mike Bloomfield and Barry Goldberg, including this album:

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

In my mind there is no band that influenced the sound/orchestration of the ABB more than the BBB. Add a second drummer; jazz it up a little. Wonder if Duane was ever quoted in reference to them
