Patterson Hood (DBT): Tribute To Tom Petty

WOW is all I can say. Stunning tribute from someone who is very talented himself and also a HUGE fan.

I really like DTB's music but I wish he would have limited his tribute to appreciating Petty and limited his sniping at parts of our culture and especially the power of prayer. But hey, our Constitution ensures his freedom to speak his mind as well as mine to find some of what he said to be distasteful.

There are 7 billion people on the planet.
I bet even you don't agree with yourself 100% of the time.
Why get upset that other people are different when the difference
hurts exactly nobody? Just to tell the world that your panties are on a special knot?

What a stunning tribute indeed. Last monday was a very dark dark day and it makes perfect sense that Patterson
also reflects on the Las Vegas massacre in his Tom Petty tribute and his anger and frustration that comes a long with it. In his lengthy yet very well worded tribute there's only a 2 line stab at members of the Goverment. It's his honest opinion and he even states himself "Thoughts such as this are not constructive or helpful, but it’s all I have right now.". I see nothing distasteful in his tribute. So 'm with robslob. And yes, like almost everything else in life, it's only an opinion.

This post in my opinion was getting way too political for the "anything goes" category. I left it up but deleted my remarks which related to the very small portion of Hood's essay which got political. I prefer to focus on Hood's admiration for Petty's greatness and just leave it at that.
