This book I'm reading, fiction, casually mentions that busy intersections in a town are "owned."

The book lays out a mafia like setup:

-intersection is owned by a guy
-another guy rounds up homeless every day, gives them signs, drops them off, instructs them on what they have to earn that day to "stay employed." Picks them up at the end of the day
-homeless guy gets a tiny cut, money flows upward

I suppose it is not far fetched to imagine this goes on in our country, I just never thought of it.

Your thoughts?

Far from it... Mary Kay is a pyramid scheme like social security and Bernie Madoff. This is straight out capitalism

I was thinking something about the people selling bottled water out of coolers on the strip in Las Vegas. There are so many of them at so many different locations it seemed like there may have been some sort of organization behind them doing it.

What's the name of the book?

Cash Landing by James Grippando. Fiction, a robbery gone wrong. Well the robbery went OK, the bad guys couldn't simply lay low and sit on their money.

That just reminded me of a good movie called - A Simple Plan. Look it up, I think it's a good one. Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Paxton.

" A Simple Plan " is a good movie and not that far fetched as to what could happen under those circumstances , well acted.

I agree and I think that is why I like it so much, it absolutely could go down exactly as they depict. Great movie.
