Interesting Oteil interview - talks of ABB relaunching with Jack Pearson and another yet-to-be named guitarist. http://weldbham.com/blog/2015/08/03/keeping-jam-alive-aquarium-rescue-unit-interview/

"Also, don’t you think it’s likely that the more time passes, the more money Gregg, Jaimoe and Butch are going to get offered to get it back together? I think at some point someone’s going to hit a number that’s too good to refuse."

Other than the above, can't see Gregg wanting to jump back in to long jams.

Even though I was in the camp of "very sad to see them go, but it's time", I'm really psyched to hear what this band does at Peach Fest

Link doesn't work.

Personally, I feel that reunion talk less than 1 year after the "grand finale" is just too soon and waters down the significance of the event and build-up. As a fan since the earliest days, I'm not sure what line-up could take the stage billed as "The Allman Brother's Band" with legitimacy. Someone alluded to a Jack Pearson-Lee Roy Parnell guitar tandem in another thread. I'm sure these two (there are hundreds of players that could fill the bill) would work - especially if Chuck Leavell could be talked into participating.

It took the original band some time to create a chemistry and to season themselves. The Warren/Derek band certainly became its own -over a period of time. I just feel that adding two new players to the original 3 (plus Marc and Oteil - if they're to be part of it) would be tantamount to hiring a couple of sidemen to play along. This might be hard for some fans to accept as "the Allman Brother's Band".

But to paraphrase Oteil's quote, "money talks". Musicians and other celeb's also tend to miss the adoration of their glory days. Either of these reasons could be enough to inspire a sudden reunion (or rebirth).

Does anybody have a transcript to Oteil's comments or a working link to the interview?

EDIT: the link above now works. Internet gremlins? Hmmm.

Jamey e-mailed me the link (thanks, Jamey!) - worked fine from the e-mail. I tried cutting and pasting the above link - never worked. Dunno.

I was and still am a GIANT fan of Oteil and the Peacemakers. Here's my personal favorite part of the interview:

Weld: Is there any chance we ever see an Oteil and the Peacemakers reunion? If I wanted to hear some of that music, where would I find it?

Burbridge: I find most of our stuff on YouTube! I pretty much live on YouTube. I just texted Chris asking him if he was into doing it again. I don’t want to hit the road with it, but I would like to play Atlanta, Birmingham, Athens, Macon, Nashville maybe. I’d want to do all new stuff.

Mark writes such great music, and I know Chris has got some new stuff too. He played me some of it. I think I might have even laid a bass track on something and emailed it back to him. Matt Slocum has been doing some writing too. Man, it could be really fun. I gotta pursue that with more intent.

Looks like money is already talking and Oteil is listening. I'm hoping that this and other projects are distracting enough to prevent an ABB re-union, which to me is only legit if it's the band that called it quits in October...

"It’s really up to Gregg, Jaimoe, and Butch at this point."

That's all there is to it. The whole thing reads to me like Oteil was just...talking about things. No more, no less.

It's funny, because Oteil himself points out how Gregg "takes the jams out" when he plays ABB songs with his solo band.

Oteil may still carry a torch for the ABB, but any version of the band that includes him would certainly include long jams.

Is it possible for a version of the ABB to exist that would satisfy both Oteil and Gregg? I honestly don't know.

A one-time thing like the band described for Peach Fest is just that, a one-time thing, until proven otherwise.

When you look at this interactive chart and see how a Butch Trucks billing sells even in a small venue well you would guess he would be on board for a reunion. lol By the way if you want 2-1 tickets for this the code is tmn241

I could get interested real fast if they did a Jack and Chuck version of the band.

Re; other player for the Oteil/Butch project-based on the Gregg tribute show, Audley Freed would be interesting.

Put me in the camp of "I'm ready for some new Allman Brothers Band!" I love Jack Pearson's playing more than any other guitarist on the planet, so bring it on! Some new voices and guitars would be excellent. Jack and Oteil sing well. Bring it on and let the evolution of the ABB continue!

And I just love Oteil's attitude! He's a real lion.... check this out:

"I started to realize that we had a lot of nerve telling them(GA, Butch, Jaimoe) when they should retire. You don’t tell a Viking he can’t go to battle anymore. If he can still walk upright then he’s going! When they get cut down in battle is when they are done and not a minute before."

Rumor has it Oteil might sit in w/the Dead (Dead & Co.) for Halloween show at MSGarden?
Billy & Mickey, Bobby, Jeff Chimenti & John Mayer?
those Chicago shows sounded so good from the people who went (haven't listened)

Oteil actually is a member of Dead & Company.

Have they played shows before?

I'm not sure about this particular conflagration, but by now everyone in this scene has played in so many variations of lineups it's possible...

There were a ton of whisperings well before the Fare Thee Well shows that Bobby would be playing some shows with John Mayer in the fall, so it appears that was quite legit.

I would hope that Mayer and Oteil push the tempos...Bob sure does love to play slow sometimes.

If I want to hear Allman Brothers songs I can see Gregg Allman and his band. I don't see them getting back with a couple of journeyman, even brilliant ones like Jack Pearson.

I'm surprised that some here wouldn't want to see them back again, with Jack and another guy, whoever it may be. After all this band has proven over the years, with what they can do with a new lineup, I don't think their age would cause them to be sub par. I don't think it's in the personalities of Gregg, Butch, and Jaimoe, to set foot onstage if they believe they are sub par (with the exception of Gregg's substance abuse years).

At any rate, I'd welcome the band back with open arms if they announce 2 new guitarists. I trust that they wouldn't do it unless they can play at the typical stellar level we are used to seeing. I can't wait to see the Butch band at Peachfest. No doubt they are going to smoke.

Did I miss where he said anything about Jack Pearson being in any "relaunch" of the ABB? He mentioned Jack in reference to Butch's PeachFest band.

Unless Jack's condition is any better, he'd just be doing one offs without much travel.

I think it's more of they just retired the band less than a year ago and the outside chance it's an early 80's type reunion where it was just best left alone.

Give us a chance to miss you first.

Either way, Oteil was just answering questions that he was asked. It likely means nothing unless Gregg really starts missing the long songs and the extra payday.

I've said for a while now that a Jack Pearson/Chuck Leavell lineup is the best case scenario for any future incarnation of the ABB. I'm not sure how likely that is to ever actually happen, but it's the one lineup that would have instant credibility. It's much like when Warren rejoined the band after Jimmy Herring left. He wasn't just the best choice--in a way he was the ONLY choice.

Warren was already an Allman Brother, in much the same way that Jack and Chuck are already Allman Brothers. They know the songs, they understand the history of the band. There would be no "breaking in" period. They would basically walk right in the door, ready to go from the start.

Again, I don't know if it will ever happen, and I'm okay with the band calling it a career at this point. But if they want to continue, Jack/Chuck is the best path forward.

I'm thinking the buddy is JD Simo.

Would love to see the Peacemakers do new music and/or tour. Really enjoyed those discs. When I'm trying to turn people on to jam music, I will often choose "No More Doubt" from them. Lordy, what a great tune.
