Oteil Burbridge Again Hints At 2017 Allman Brothers Band Reunion

Tonight Dead & Company resumes Summer Tour at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. Bassist Oteil Burbridge discussed the group in an interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune, but also talked about the status of another legend act with whom he’s associated. Oteil says an Allman Brothers Band reunion may be the in the works for 2017 and added “I think the original guys have been talking.”
Oteil Burbridge was the focus of one of JamBase’s recent The Art Of The Sit-In columns and first discussed the potential ABB reunion. “Gregg [Allman] texted all of us right before the last Wanee about trying to put something together next year but I haven’t heard anything since then. I told him that I was down for it. I guess enough time has passed for him,” the bassist told us. When asked by the San Diego paper about a reunion Oteil “Oh, yeah, I’m always waiting for that call. Gregg (Allman) texted us not long ago, saying: ‘Hey, maybe we should start thinking about getting something together in 2017.’ I said: Hey, man, I’m here! Holler at me!’”
The surviving original members of the Allman Brothers Band are Gregg, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe. There’s no word on exactly who would be a part of a potential reunion though the last two guitarists to play with the group, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, seem pretty firm about being done with their roles. Butch, Jaimoe, Oteil and former ABB guitarist Jack Pearson are part of the lineup for Les Brers who will perform at next month’s Peach Music Festival and have a series of Northeast shows set for September.
Oteil also revealed he’s been in contact with Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and has Phil’s full blessing. “It’s definitely both approaches, because Phil’s philosophy gives you carte blanche,” Burbridge told the paper. “What am I going to do? Because there’s nothing I can do that’s too weird!. I was just talking with Phil a couple of days ago, and he quoted Beethoven: ‘Its’ an artist’s duty to confound expectations, even your own.’”

Jack and Chuck would be nice.

They exited with dignity and had a good run....
...let it go

My sentiments as well.
However, a 50th anniversary set of shows would be a nice way to end it for good, though.

The final tour every 2-3-4-5 years gets old. All the remaining members are still playing ABB songs,
there is no need to return.
I'm not interested in spinning the 2019 version of the ABB next to the 1969 version although I like folk music and cover songs.

If there is new original music involved, I say go for it boys!

If it turns into anything it will be festival appearances with Gregg, Warren, Butch, Jaimoe, Marc, Oteil and Jackie P is my prediction.

Hints again? They all want it. I think Gregg will have a very good time at the Laid Back festival on Long Island, might inspire him to make a few phone calls. New York has been known to inspire 'em.

Assuming Derek and Warren are done, I have 2 wishes:
1. Jack and new music
Or
2. The return of Dickey.
Or both! But not an oldies tour.

They are indeed all playing ABB music as far as the original guys go. For a lot less money.
I think the only way that you see Warren involved would be with Dickey involved and even then......I think he would pass. Warren and Jack would be great but I say Warren stays away. He was leaving whether they continued or not. Too soon I think.
Will be the Beacon Run and a handful of shows. Pad the pockets and go do solo shows again.

It would be great to hear them with Betts again. Just Betts, like in the 70's.

It would be interesting to hear Dickey and Chuck as the two "new" guys; only if there was new music and the abilities of all parties warranted putting the Allman Brothers name on it.

They can go out like Jordan with the Bulls, which I believe they did, or risk going out like Jordan with the Wizards.
The choice is theirs

Unless its with Dickey, I say let it rest.

If the boys think they've still got fuel in the tank, I hope they go for it. I'd sure like to see them.

Forrest, Jack, and Chuck.
Like I've posted before. never count this bunch out.
On a serious note, we are blessed indeed that Gregg has his health and we can discuss.
Amen.

X2

I'm not interested unless they issue a standing rule: No One Way Out or Statesboro Blues.

Dickey doesn't have the chops anymore to handle all the guitar work by himself. Dickey's my favorite guitarist of all time, but he would need another guitar to do the songs justice.

If it really happens, I'd like to see Dickey and Jackie P. I wasn't able to go to any shows in October 2014, I still have that ABB itch...

Same here, I haven't seen the Allmans since 2011.

I see the Dead boys have turned Oteil onto mushrooms. Or maybe Derek put him up to it.

Definitely no Soulshine, that's for sure... 😛

It was acid that Oteil took before the Gorge show, and it was not his first time taking it. He's also taken mushrooms before which should not surprise anyone.
