After 21 years, Indianapolis may be returning to the good graces of the Rolling Stones.

The last time the iconic rock band performed in Indianapolis more than 10,000 of 40,000 tickets went unsold at the RCA Dome. Industry insiders say the empty seats of 1994 left an enduring bruise on the ego of Rolling Stones vocalist Mick Jagger.

But music news website SongMango.com offers speculation that Jagger, guitarists Keith Richards and Ron Wood and drummer Charlie Watts are headed back to Indiana this summer. When reporting a rumor that the Rolling Stones will tour North America this summer, SongMango cites a July 4 performance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a June 22 show in Milwaukee and a May 24 show in San Diego as the only specific dates on the itinerary.

The band has announced no tour plans, and its publicist could not be reached for comment.

I spoke with Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles on Wednesday. He declined to comment on the unconfirmed report, but he said it was "flattering" for the track to be mentioned in this type of conversation.

SongMango, founded in December by Washington, D.C.-based public relations executive Peter Wendel, lists its Stones tour sources as "industry insiders, industry outsiders, scalawags, ragamuffins and the world's greatest Rolling Stone fan website, Shidoobee."

If the Stones return to Indianapolis, the concert may represent a change of heart for Jagger.

In 2004, a Pacers Sports and Entertainment vice president told The Star that Jagger holds an anti-Indianapolis grudge.

"It comes down to Mick Jagger," said Jeff Bowen, who formerly booked events at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. "As I have been told numerous times, the last time (the Stones) played Indianapolis was an RCA Dome date that didn't sell out. Jagger says he'll never come back, and he seems to be sticking to his guns."

At Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a new Turn 4 configuration for concerts can accommodate more than 60,000 attendees in the infield.

During the weekend of this year's Indianapolis 500, Jane's Addiction will play the annual Carb Day concert at the track on May 22 followed by a May 23 Legends Day show starring Florida Georgia Line.

Boles said the artist lineup for this year's Indy 500 Snake Pit concert, set for May 24, will be announced next week.

As a lifelong Indiana resident all I can say is this. We don't want nor need Mick Jagger and that group of has beans. They are so irrelevant at this point it's not funny. Go play somewhere else Mick....

I've been to two shows in the last ten years, and I really enjoyed both of them. I had good seats at both shows, and spent less than $100 per ticket each time.

Sure glad the Hell's Angels weren't standing at the end of my aisle, though.
