Prior to last night's Gov't Mule show in Hengelo, Netherlands, Warren Haynes did a brief "in store" solo performance at near by's legendary old school record store "Pop Eye" (thanks Johan!!!). Due to the summer weather the short set was performed in a small shopping street. Fortunally plenty fans found out on time and made it to the store in time. I had to rush to the other side of my small country and made it on time too...but barely... because i just returned from a 2 day blues and roots festival (Moulin Blues Festival) which Gov't Mule headlined. I already had plans to travel to Hengelo for the Mule show anyway but i had to rush and catch a train to make it on time. And in good Mule fashion there were non or barely non songs repeated on saturday and yesterday's shows. The record store performance was only shortly prior to the soundcheck at the venue so it was notified in advance that this was not a meet & greet and there was no autograph session either. The store itself was normally closed on sunday so it was announced as a short solo performance and that was it.
Only a few minutes later i already found Warren prepared to sign my Christmas Jam 2008 poster and my vinyl "Man In Motion" inside the closed store! Muchos Gracios Warren.

Sound a bit "windy" but i bet more clips will surface.

Sound a bit less "windy" on this clip of "Endless Parade". I was standing right in front of Warren. You can see my sand coloured t-shirt moving in the wind in the left corner. Looks like 2 yards distance in the clip but it felt like only 1 yard or less. I could have touched "Blondie" only by stretching my arm if i would have liked to do that (which would be very silly of course).

Not my pics but from a photographer from the cool Dutch BluesMagazine website who was standing directly next to me:

(review itself is in Dutch).

Was having a hell of a time getting that bad boy in tune.

Cool video and looks like a blast. About as close to a private concert as you will get.

Actually, regarding the tuning: it was a bit of a hassle due to a digital tuning device at Warren's feet but because the sun was shining so hard it was difficult for Warren to see the digital display. They tried to create a bit of shade with a cardboard box but the wind blew it over. Hilarious. It was all kinda improvised quickly. Yesterday the Netherlands had the highest temperatures in the whole of Europe! While a week before it was snowing!

That explains it. After a couple of minutes I was wondering why he didn't just tune by ear.

What a great opportunity for you to see him up close and personal.

Did you tell him that we all voted you the #1 Dutch Fan?

Only watched a few minutes of your video because I'm busy with chores this morning, but MAN, was it SWEET! Thanks. Will listen to the whole thing this evening.

I caught Warren solo at a record store in San Francisco a few years ago on a Monday night, he had just flown across the country after multiple sets at Wanee. Warren the touring animal as usual...........
