Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

I forgot today is November 10th, the anniversary. I've been a member of The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum for about 30 years. It is in Paradise or Whitefish Point. That is where they were trying to get to. There are about three theories on how the ship sank. I have my know thoughts on that. I've studied this for a long time, read everything out there on the topic and there is no definitive answer. I have a few beautiful pictures.
The one you posted of the lifeboat is (or at least it was) located in a museum in Sault St. Marie, west of Whitefish Point. It's actually in a freighter.
There's a church in downtown Detroit, I think it is called Mariner's Church and they ring a bell for every member of the crew. Hence that line from Gordon Lightfoot's song.
Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

One other thing about that is the freighter left the U.S. but sank in Canada en route back to the U.S. Canada gave the U.S. (specifically Michigan) the rights to dive the wreck. The bell from the front of the boat is in Whitefish Point. The guy that led the dive is Tom Farnquist. Director of the museum. Very nice guy.

Meanwhile, here in the Golden Isles we've just finished removing a major shipwreck. Cargo carrier, the Golden Ray capsized (or turned over on its starboard) a little over two years ago. The Golden Ray was one of those super huge ships designed to transport automobiles (over 7,000 brand new Kias went down with the ship!).
The initial idea/proposal for removal was that the ship would be cut into 7 "slices" working non-stop over a 7 day period. I'd like to meet the person who proposed this idea! Broken chains (used as a giant "saw' between two large cranes), fires and occasional inclement weather certainly added to the process. A little over two years later - the ship was finally "sliced" up and removed - thanks to the use of a gigantic yellow crane system known as the VB 10,000.
The MOST expensive maritime disaster in U.S. history! Final cost of removal - right at $one billion dollars!

Did anybody else say that last line in Dr. Evil's voice?

I have been to the Museum before. We live in Indiana and vacation quite a bit in Mich. We were in the UP about a month ago and stayed over in Big Bay right on Superior.
You might be interested in the works of Ric Mixter. He is very knowledgeable on the EF , Great lakes and ship wrecks. Link below to more info on him. He was on Coast to Coast last night talking about EF. He feels from his investigation in what was one huge wave that took it down.

No,I know what you are talking about. He did a VRBO rental just down the road from there. The BBLH offers tours, but they were closed for that due to the Covid. I would have like to visited it though.
The Lumberjack Tavern in Big Bay, where part of the movie Anatomy of A Murder with Jimmy Stewart was filmed, I believe is up for sale.
