GREGG ALLMAN UNABLE TO APPEAR AT FIRST TWO CITY WINERY RESIDENCY SHOWS
THE GREGG ALLMAN BAND LEAD BY MUSIC DIRECTOR SCOTT SHARRARD WILL PERFORM THE ALLMAN REPERTOIRE AT THESE TWO SHOWS
ALLMAN SET TO RETURN WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9
Gregg Allman will not be able to appear at the first two City Winery residency dates set to take place tonight and tomorrow, Sunday November 6 and Monday November 7, due to a recent bruised vocal cord that needs a few additional days rest. It is very important to Gregg to be at his best for his fans during this incredible run of shows at the City Winery. Allman will be back for this rare multi-date club run on Wednesday November 9, and the rest of the residency dates are still confirmed to take place as scheduled.
For Sunday and Monday, the red hot Gregg Allman Band comprising music director/guitarist Scott Sharrard as well as Peter Levin (keyboards), Steve Potts (drums), Brett Bass (bass), Jay Collins and Art Edmaiston (saxophone), Marc Franklin (trumpet), and longtime Allman Brothers Band member Marc Quinones (percussion), will perform the historic Allman Brothers Band and solo Allman catalogs along with Shararrd’s original material. Full refunds are available for those who do not wish to attend.
“I know all about guitar players —I’ve seen the very best — and Scott Sharrard is the perfect guitarist for my band. He understands that you don’t need to play just for the sake of playing; Scott isn’t one of those guys who thinks they’re getting paid by the note. He never steps on the vocals, and leaves plenty of room for everyone else to do their thing, but when it’s time to solo, Scott delivers, boy.”

That's some concerning news. Hopefully everything is ok.

Too bad...but can you say you are surprised...hope he gets better.

Great show last night, I arrived a lil late (NJ traffic), but took some vid's and pic's, Well worth the time and effort. Smokin' tunes. Some Scott Sharrard solo stuff mixed in with some AAB stuff.... How can you go wrong. Tonight will be more of the same focusing on Duane, Again....How can you go wrong? Last night the band was tight and loose, You get that right? A nice mix of musical diversity. Southern funk to classic blues. A Tower Of Power style groove was making Mama dance in the corner. Try to get there tonight. Life is about living.

This is great to hear and not surprising to me one bit. I bet the band had a blast, too.
What's that saying ---- when the cat is gone the mice will play or something like that?

Get there if you can. I was buried in the back corner for most of the show and moved up later. This grab is with a napkin as a base, It's off kilter (sorry). I have half the show to go thru, but wanted to get some asses in the chairs tonight with a glimpse of the quality of F'n R'nR happening right here! There's a memory waiting to be put in place at 155 Varick St tonight, Get it!

How early do you have to show up to get in? Hearing its first come first serve..

I got there at least a 1/2 late and there was plenty of spots. They had opening bands listed for both nights, Chessbox was opening for one of the nights and there's not a bad seat in the house, Get there when you can, you'll not regret it.

Right on

Reports are - All Shows will be cancelled. Prayers for Brother Gregg.
Mike

Where did you see that all shows are cancelled? I checked the Winery site and Gregg's site, no such mention. If so, this is not good.

Gregg Allman to Cancel 10-Show Run at City Winery http://www.zagsblog.com/2016/11/08/gregg-allman-cancel-10-show-run-city-winery/ …

I'm glad Gregg is taking some extended time off.
His health issues are not minor ones.
I questioned him doing a 10 show run as soon as I heard about it.
Plus the weather up north is getting cold now.
Perhaps it is time to build a restaurant/music performing venue so we can all come down to Georgia and visit.

He should've stuck with his original plan of postponing touring and only doing the City Winery 10 show run, He tried to be a trooper and appease his fans, but his loyalty may have caused this flare-up. The City Winery shows were at the same intimate venue with no travel, He'd be anchored in NY. With the venue being so tiny he would not be vocally challenging the band, He wouldn't need to compete and strain himself. It would've been epic. Health is wealth and his health is all that matters. I'll let the venue hold my money and hit the rescheduled July dates.

Didn't he only do 2 shows since his comeback, Red Rocks & Atlanta and they were a month apart.

All shows through January are now off.

I'm not sure, I'll take your word. I assumed it was more with the hoopla and all. It's all about his well being.

Poor Gregg. He wants to perform, he wants to be back up on stage. It's what he loves and what he knows, but all good things come to an end. Not sure if this is the end, but it has been a rough last few months. Best wishes for Gregg.

I'd be curious to know who Gregg was specifically referring to here, or if this was just a general comment...was he being critical (in a somewhat subtle way) of any of the former ABB guitarists? Was he implying that one (or more) of them just played for the sake of playing, thought they were getting paid by the note, stepped on the vocals, etc.?
