"The surviving members of the Grateful Dead"
um...

The best description I have heard of the differences came from Rich Robinson. He said something along the lines of "The ABB jams were building to something. There always seemed to be a purpose in the song and building up the song. The Dead jams would break the song down away from its core and sometimes they could find their way back to the song." I don't have the exact quote, but I think it is fairly valid in how they differed in their approach.

Best comparison I've heard is Warren's "make it happen vs. let it happen" reference.
A couple little digs against Gregg in there by Oteil --- not that they're untrue or surprising!

I don't think they're digs. Gregg would agree with them.
