Fleetwood Mac in Chicago is an album by the rock band Fleetwood Mac. It was the result of a recording session in early 1969 at Chess Records in Chicago (home to Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, et al.) with Fleetwood Mac, then a young British blues band, and a number of famous Chicago blues artists from whom they drew inspiration.[1][2] The album has also been released, with slightly different track listings, under the titles Blues Jam at Chess[3][4] and Blues Jam in Chicago Volumes One and Two.[5][6]

The members of Fleetwood Mac at the time of this recording were Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie. The Chicago blues musicians who played at this session were Otis Spann (piano, vocals), Willie Dixon (upright bass), Shakey Horton (harmonica, vocals), J.T. Brown (tenor saxophone, vocals), Buddy Guy (guitar), Honeyboy Edwards (guitar, vocals), and S.P. Leary (drums).

Owsleys (Bear's) son has a nonprofit foundation set up to salvage and restore Owsley's old reels. Owsley was a live sound pioneer wizard in late 60s early z70s Sam Frisco - his tapes are treasure.

Worth a look - they have some excellent work done so far - the Allman Brothers, Doc Watson is unreal!

At some point over this past winter, a pal of mine had given me that recent single-disc ABB "compilation" from Owsley, but i had not even noticed that it was a compilation. I had assumed it was just a re-release of a single-disc CD that had come out years ago as like a one-shot from Grateful Dead Records or Dick's Picks or someone like that.

Now i see have some digging to do!

^ yeah the ABB Fillmore 70 sounds great. I dont know if Doc Watson is to your liking but it is an amazing set.

IMHO the band sounds a bit rough in spots on the Bears Sonic release. But damn they were still amazing. This was only 1970. In 1971 we got At Fillmore East. The Fillmore West Box Set is recorded right before AFE is tremendous as well. Can you imagine what could have been? We will never know...

They seem to be one of the rare deals where you can trust the analog is true analog to the new pressings. The ABB one was spendy at first, I waited until it was out a while and it was much cheaper. They were mentioning on website that ABB was someday going to be put out on reel to reel as a few others are, but it would be $$$$$$.
