Although I have to admit I haven't known a single artist who was seeking a song from the aspiring songwriters, anyone else watching this show?

It's mostly pop/country & the songwriters present already polished demos to the producers & artists, but I think it's interesting to see how three different producers hear a song & what direction they would take it. The prize for the last episode was to be included in a scene for the Fast & Furious franchise. So far, the winners are predictable & sometimes, the song seems worse after producer input. Still, it's an alternative to the other TV "talent" contests.

So, I guess I'm alone in watching this summer trial show. I'm probably the only one over 14, too.

I haven't been watching. There's been a lot of backlash here in Nashville about this show because in submission, you're basically giving them freedom to use your song in any format they want for nothing. It seems like it's all smoke in mirrors, most people have shied away from it.

That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks!!!

I assumed that like any reality show, anything produced on the show (art, products, fashion designs, recipes) is owned by the show so the aspiring songwriters are giving up their rights in the song in order to get contacts & PR. I also suspected some of them - like the ones who've been at it for 10 years - aren't offering up their best work for precisely that reason.

I know the business is a crap shoot. I just read in my twitter feed that some Nashville songwriter is appearing on The Bachelorette this season in order to promote his music. Not sure how that works for him, but I guess ANY visibility helps.

Good concept for a TV show. I watched one episode. It seemed like it was polished up real well for TV. I don't want to overemphasize, but one word that comes to mind when watching the show is "predictable". I would have preferred the show to be a little bit more raw, but I suspect the producers vision doesn't jive with that.
