This legendary band replaced a legendary singer that used to sing for a different legendary band with a singer that also replaced him in the previous band.
^ I couldn't write the equation on the blackboard, but this screams Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Dio, Gillian . . .

Correct, Black Sabbath replaced Ian Gillan with Glenn Hughes, who also was one of the two singers Deep Purple hired to replace Ian Gillan.
Goes to show a shot in the dark might hit something. Am too busy to come up with something, free turn for anyone
Name the only musician to appear on studio albums by both The Allman Brothers Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
(in the 1969-81 era, that is. I'm not familiar with Skynyrd's recent albums)
Johnny Cobb?
Way cool on that Sticky Fingers cover, had never seen that b4

Jimmie Hall?
Correct!
Jimmy Hall played sax on "Never Knew How Much", and Harmonica on Skynyrd's "Railroad Song".
Thx Stormrider that question was driving me nuts. Broke down and went a-googlin, ended up reading the dumbest thread ABB/LS ever on Steve Hoffman. If I ever read one more Ed King attack on Tom Dowd I'm gonna . . . I'm gonna . . . run to HTW and whine about it.
Album covers
This band was one of the stars at Woodstock. Oddly enough, there 1st album didn’t come out until a few weeks after the festival
Sha Na Na
CSN
Santana
I like the previous three answers, but I'm gonna guess Mountain.
Sry got impatient, looked this up - Mountain debut record was released March 70, not to be confused with Leslie Wests album titled "Mountain" released July 1969. No cigar, but weirdest answer because their first album was well into 1970.
Sha Na Na - debut album November 69, months, not weeks after Woodstock. Yet another swing and miss.
CSN, my first thought as well since they were so damn green nervous and uptight at Woodstock, nope their debut record was May 69.
Which leaves Santana - they seemed so pro and polished I assumed they had been around for years already, so quickly moved on.
I've seen some websites listing the pay for various bands at the original Woodstock, and they list the band Santana getting $750 for their gig that day. Apparently they only got signed because of Bill Graham's insistence. They were basically unknown outside of San Francisco at that time, and Woodstock was their big springboard.
Yep
I would argue that one of the Stars of Woodstock (at least the movie and album- I didn’t say headliner) was Santana. The album came out in late August

I will pass the next question to whoever wants it.
In 1968 this band recorded a song by Charles Manson, with a few changes to lyrics and structure. It was a b-side on a single. Name the band.
Beach Boys
yep
I will pass the next question to whoever wants it.
This musician was a member of one of the biggest progressive rock bands in the early 1970's until the mid 70's he joined one of the biggest rock bands until the early 1980's. He would play in many unknown bands in the 1980's and 90's and actually played on a song of jon lord's and toured with Alvin lee for a short while before ultimately returning to the rock band he was known for in the late 90's recording a few new songs and a tour.
Bill Bruford?
Bill Bruford?
No..give a hint. Not a drummer..and the last studio album he was on with the rock band in the 80's actually got in a fight during the recording with the very famous singer.

Steve Morse?
Nigel Tufnel?
Nope... The reunion for the Band he was in was 1999 I believe.
Is it Boz from King Crimson/Bad Co?
Not sure about the Alvin Lee or Jon Lord bits.
