My Five Greatest Rock Records of All-Time

Aztec two step 1st album
So rare to see this ever mentioned in any context. I agree that this was a superb album. Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarity (aka Neal Cassady) is the centerpiece for me. For those who never heard of this group or song:
50Split, nice selection of "softer" material. I also appreciated Alone Together, McCartney, and After the Goldrush.

^^
great album (as are other choices), agree that I'm surprised to see it mentioned anywhere
I saw them many years ago, I think when they released their second album. And, to my surprise, saw them warm up for Jonathan Edwards about 4 - 5 years ago. most of the show was the 1st album, they played it very well, singing voices are still in good shape.

One of the five greatest records of all-time? Seriously now guys..............is this some kind of joke? I had never heard of them but played Don's youtube audio only link.............or as much as I could get through. you should have started your own thread, not thrown it into this one. Just IMO, but hey, I started this........

Listening to Aztec Two-Step right now . . . Thanks for introduction, never listened to these guys - great ballad about Neal Casady, really cool! That's my favorite thing about this place, is the random and amazing music I keep learning about here.
Kind of forgot about that whole mellow denimclad burlap rock scene those couple years in the early 70's, man that was a nice little time kinda hidden in there between the sixties splash and the 70's flash. No paranoia or aggravation or hassle, just cold beer and warm girls and sweet herb. . . life was actually easy and fun for a little while there.

So regarding this Aztec Two Step stuff:
or as much as I could get through
Thanks for introduction, never listened to these guys - great ballad about Neal Casady, really cool!
As the poet said "One man's ceiling is another man's floor."
These reactions don't sound too different than any other musical debate around here.
BTW, nice to see some stuff from the singer/songwriter period getting its props.

? My post was a response of appreciation of your youtube link, not an argument with robslob, no more of a challenge to anyone than your praise of a great record - I don't engage in debate over subjective matters, no point to it. As you said, one man's ceiling is another man's floor. Someone could post the Archies as their top rock band and it wouldn't make any difference to me.
"Some cats just swing that way" as they say !

Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarity lyrics:
Well I can’t understand what is wrong with the man
Don’t he know how he’s acting is long ago banned
Don’t you think it’s a shame, someone tell me his name
If we let him continue things may get out of hand…
Look at him laughing and carrying on
Like a hydrogen manic or an organic bomb
He’s alive like a child, so terribly wild
He has way too much freedom so of course he is wrong, he’s wrong yeah
He was born on the road in the month of July
And he’ll live on the road ‘til he sees fit to die
‘Cause he learned from the road how humanity cries,
How society lies, he sees with more than his eyes
Look at him running don’t he know how to walk
He’s just too damned cunning you can tell by his talk
You can tell he is rude, like a typical dude
If you want my opinion he belongs under lock…
One look in his eyes and you know he’s unsound
There’s no way to faze him he’s nobody’s clown
He’s as deep as the sea and he’s equally free
That’s why I fear him and hate him and wish he were down, was down yeah
Whether riding the rails out of Denver
Or bumming his friends’ cigarettes
He’s asking them all to remember
Making sure that they’ll never forget
So you’re curious ‘bout this man who I speak
‘Cause he tears you and scares you out of your sleep
I am sure that you’ll find, if you open your mind
That it’s you and not he who is really the freak…
So relax for a moment as you would for your hobby
His beauty abounds in his mind and his body
He’s like the setting sun’s hues, or the dust on his shoes
He’s living he’s naughty, he’s Dean Moriarty, yeah
Whether riding the rails out of Denver
Or bumming his friends’ cigarettes
He’s asking them all to remember
Making sure that they’ll never forget

This is my five. Chosen more of my love for the album and the memories attached to each than the greatest record by that particular band.
Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek & The Dominos
At Fillmore East - Allman Brothers Band
Little Feat - Little Feat
Frampton - Peter Frampton
Zappa / Mothers - One Size Fits All
Steppenwolf - Monster
Make it six. This list is subject to change.

Hey you must have esp, I wanted those lyrics, was planning on working up a nice little butchered version on my guitar myself! Never heard any ballad of Cassady, other than a couple Dead tunes that are cryptic at best, great tunes but not topical balladry.
This is a great find. Side point, my brother swears he talked to Neal Cassady in the back of a guitar builder's shop in Haight Ashbury eight years after his "death". Different name, same look and manner and speedrap. And out of place - 1950's straight look, in a 70s hippie style environment . . . who knowss?
Anyway, back to robslob's thread - i'm being obnoxious as usual. Working on my next five - don't know why but every day I feel like it is a new five top rock records.
What would be cool after is to shake all the posts together and see which five got repeated the most, after a bunch more posts. Seeing a lot of Laylas Electric Ladylands and Live At Fillmore Easts.
