My Favorite Rendition of a XMAS Tune Ever

Hank Crawford: The Christmas Song

Enjoyed that very much. Never heard of Hank Crawford. Great saxophone playing. I had a friend in New York who worked as a Broadway stage hand and played the sax every day and was in a local band. He is passed on now. He said it's a hard instrument to master.

Never heard of Hank Crawford.

He was Ray Charles' musical director, then embarked on a solo career. He died in 2009 at 74. David Sanborn was a huge fan, they both play alto sax. Many years ago (over 30) Sanborn had a late night TV show and had Crawford as his guest on one of those. Fortunately, if I dig for it, I still have a VHS of that show somewhere.
Truly one of the greatest shows of my life was Hank Crawford and Jimmy McGriff at Back Alley Bistro in LA, must have been 1982. I think there was one other white person there besides myself and he was wait staff. I could say it was religious but really it was beyond the usual interpretation of that term. All of those black people stood up at the end as if they were in worship...........and they WERE. I will never forget that night. Sometimes white people are just missing out on things, that's something I took away from that evening.................
