TIME TO BRAG AGAIN..........how can I help it?

If you're interested, my brother Jason Orme will be on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Wednesday 12/4/19 @ 11:30 PM. It's Alanis Morissette with her full electric band. FYI, Jason is the guitar player on the far right.

They also are playing The Apollo Theater in New York tomorrow night, 12/2/19. That is the acoustic show, just Jason and Julian Coryell on guitar with Alanis singing.

According to my sister Lorie, a full scale tour with the electric band is in the works for next year. Alanis just had her third kid last summer. My guess is at 45 years old she is done making babies and will be more active musically at least for awhile. A new record will be out soon as well.

Seems unbelievable to me, but Jason has been with her for 18 years now, the senior member of her band.

They were talking about her on the Local News here tonight.

So far no Hometown Ottawa date but there are free days around the Toronto show.

Regarding her band of 18 years ago, Alanis was cleaning house. There were a couple of guys she was not fond of, and Jason really has never told me why. Anyway, she decided to clean house and start over. One of the guys was just a victim of the situation, NOT one of the unliked, and he happened to be a good friend of Jason's. The guy recommended Jason to her. Yes, he had to audition.............he played for her around four times............not really sure on details but I believe it was with some guys she had already chosen. Over the course of four or so rehearsals she got to know him a bit too, and she's real big on personality. Jason has his head on straight, NOT full of himself, and he doesn't do ANY drugs.............he'll have a couple of beers but even that is minor...........he doesn't even smoke weed. She just liked him and obviously 18 years later, she still does.

To be honest 18 years later I still have a hard time grasping all this. I'm 11 years older and shared a room with him when I was 16 and he was 5. I'd come home from seeing Sabbath or Zeppelin, all pumped, stereo on, posters around the room..............how could it all not have an effect on him? He's told me many times how much it did.

But he has talent that I NEVER had. He is my Dad and Stepmom's kid and my Stepmom was a professional opera singer before she met my Dad. Professional opera singer? That's HEAVY duty stuff, man. You have to have PERFECT pitch. So he's got it.........in his GENES. It was apparent from the first time I heard him play, in a band, when he was 17. I about SH*T.............

There was a feature article on Alannis's return in the New York Times Sunday magazine, I believe this past Sunday.

I only read through part of it, but one thing it said was that her big album (Jagged Little Pill) sold 10 million copies upon initial release, and then sold 20 million more copies. That is amazing.

They put that into larger perspective by saying that this one album has outsold Taylor Swift's entire discography sales combined. Yikes! Them's some numbers.

Jagged Little Pill is the biggest selling debut by ANY artist in history! "Debut" means a major label release............she made a couple of pop records in Canada when she was 14 or 15. I think the main reason that JLP was SO big was that just about every other girl in their teens/20's around the world bought it. Young women all around the world really embraced it.........a HUGE empowerment statement for women.

Robslob, you are correct about that - I was teaching juniors and seniors at that time, and every female student owned that album and held those songs as anthems - but it also is an album that had the kind of musical and lyrical teeth that guys could admit to liking it too.

It is rock. It is not teen pop. It holds up as well as many rock albums from that era and better than most.

Well said. I love the record myself, there's not a weak tune on it!

The 'debut" thing was always a crock as she was on a major label for her first two albums. She also got dropped from the label. Their mistake but in fairness it was band dance/pop music.

But it takes nothing away from a strong album. JLP put her on the map.

Saw her open for The Rolling Stones at Giants Stadium on their Bigger Bank tour and she was great. The stage was HUGE and it didn't intimidate her one bit. She absolutely commanded that stage.
